Help getting data off android SD card.

Hello wonderful people of the forum.

Im in need of some help. Im not an android user so keep that in mind here.

a good friend of mine will be upgrading from a Verizon 4g android handset, The LG revolution to be exact, to an Apple device.
She uses her phone as her computer so she has some pretty precious data saved to her SD card that she would like to backup to my computer & transfer over to her new device.

My last phone with a SD card was a blackberry bold so i thought i could just plug the phone into my desktop and explore the SD card through windows like i did with my Bold, but no such luck. Trying to explore the SD card in windows came up with nothing, Just an empty folder named Android secured or something of that nature. Looked around the phone settings for a SD card security option & couldn't find anything. Once again im not an android user or at all familiar with the platform so i may have missed something.

To my knowledge she is running the most current version of android that Verizon has pushed OTA.

If anyone can point me in the correct direction my friend and i would highly appreciate it.

Thanks

If you aren't seeing it when connecting the phone to the computer via USB (depending on version of Android OS, etc), try popping the microSD card out of the phone and reading it in a memory card reader. If you don't have a media card reader handy you can always pick one up at any Best Buy or Radio Shack for under $20.

The card in the phone is MicroSD so check if the reader directly supports MicroSD or if you need to put the MicroSD into a SD card adapter which usually comes with any MicroSD purchased.

Thanks for the reply, Tried the built in card reader on my desktop, also tried PIC bridge on my printer & putting the SD card in the BB bold. All had the same result Android secured empty folder.

What operating system are you trying to use to read the card? I recently swapped out a micro SD card and my WIN XP SP 3 system would not read the card, but my WIN 7 64 bit OS would read the card.

What is the density of the card it is possible that the readers your using don't support the card SDHC or SDXC

Im not not exactly sure about her SD card i don't have it in front of me. but after reading your post i have tried writing and reading some pictures & music files from a few different high capacity newer SD cards i recently purchased without a problem. 32GB cards. Those say HC on them?

Now.. Before anyone ask's, Yes there is data on her card. She has things "Saved to the SD card" and the disk will present itself as being X amount full out of X Gigs.

Tonight im gonna be trying to ready her phone, and SD card from a different machine machine & external card reader borrowed from a friend. wish me luck! ill be posting back my results. Thanks again for the replies.

Never had an issue with accessing files off of an SD card from a phone when plugged into a PC, but if all else fails, I suppose she could upload her content to her Google Drive, download it on her PC and then import it into iTunes to sync with an iPhone.

You have the correct adapters and media readers. The original SD devices are not compatible with the newer SDHC and SDXC cards.

On the phone, if you launch the My Files application and go to All Files, it should show Device storage and SD Memory Card. The above steps/names might be different based on the specific version of Android the phone is running.

Do you see the files listed on the SD card?

That would be the first thing I would have done. Theres a Google drive app for the iPhone as well, so need need to sync or transfer anything really.

Okay, So after fudging around with the phone and changing the USB connection settings on the phone a gazillion times to "Mass storage device" finally the phone liked everything and the SD card appeared as a drive on my dell optiplex and i was able to get everything off of the SD card. Thanks for the input
