WHo am I hurting

I downloaded the new Fast and Furious Movie which has made well over 500million dollars. Who am I hurting?

I would like to also point out I paid for a ticket to go see the movie in theaters as well.

Hollywood Extorts bribes and come sup with secret laws that the people have no say in mean while us the so called pirates do not threaten , do not extort nor do we bribe. we share with others. The stuff we share with other creates exposure for the product and oif the product is exposed just enough profit can be made because if someone likes what they see or hear they will make a purchase.

I am sitting on over 500 DVDS and 200 blurays the majority of which I would not have bought if i couldn't download and see if i liked the material first.

More and more studys are coming out proving Pirates spend more money then anyone else.

I have downloaded an elvis track or two. I did not feel guilt there though because the king is dead and corpses do not need money.

DanteX is correct. I have downloaded things, but I also buy DVDs/BluRays/CDs. The stuff I download is stuff that I wouldn't pay for anyway. If I really likea CD/Movie, I buy it.

The "who am I hurting" argument is weakened by the fact that modern P2P technology tends to involve more than just one person in the process; by downloading a file, you're also sending it to other people. I think that ultimately it ends up as a net positive for the publisher (I'm arguing that piracy within reason helps copyright holders rather than costing them revenue), but you can't pretend that downloading something via P2P is a one-to-one relationship, because it's not.

1 recommendation

By using peer to peer technologies such as BitTorrent it gets the one copy of that movie distributed around the world to many people and in some cases can generate revenue based on the fact someone who downloads it likes what they Saw and wants a legit copy and even more titles like it. It creates profit where profit may have not existed at all.
