yahoo's annoying CAPTCHA word verification step???For the past month I have had to go through Yahoo's captcha verification step in which I must enter a string of letters and numbers before I can send an email. I find this to be a big pain. They say it is necessary to prevent spam...I find that curious because I receive tons of spam every week mostly with asian alphabet characters and from other foreign email domains.
Why is yahoo penalizing its users with this because of spammers who typically send out thousands of emails at a time?
Is there any way to bypass this annoyance???? |

The CAPTCHA step stops you sending mass email. It does nothing to stop you from receiving it. |

Is this when you sign in? |

I saw it on sign in on a little used account.
At first, I attributed it to the infrequency of account access.
But then I'm thinking it was because I entered a wrong un/pw combo on multiple attempts.
(Wasn't sure about either the un or pw but had thoughts on each. Just wasn't putting the right combinations together.) |

Are you sure that your account is not being used by a spammer? Change your password. There is a section(profile or settings) where you can see what IP address last accessed your account for about the last dozen times.
I seen it before on one of my accounts that was brand spanking new and I sent about 6 emails in rapid succession. It partly flagged the account for using it too quick for that one time. |

Changing the password seems unlikely to make the captcha go away - that just stops anyone who's been misusing your account from continuing to do so. Meanwhile, though, if indeed captcha has been imposed on your account because of someone sending spam (as suggested by some people here), that condition still applies. |

If it was a spammer hooked into your account, it may take a few days for the 'send mail captcha' to disappear. Hopefully. You could also google your particular email name to see if there are google hits for it being blacklisted in spam databases, if indeed it was a spammer in it. Another thing with changing passwords is make sure your secondary password reset has not been changed(ex: parent / bob). That would be if it was it was a human getting into your account and not just a mass mail hack bot with varying program awareness. One thing to try and reset the captcha, google would seem to say is to send a couple of emails to yourself. Which reminds me that I had to do that once on another yahoo email account I have that is mainly a dormant spam trap and I went to sent an email and it captcha me. I then sent me a couple of emails to myself on the same account and the captcha was gone. » help.yahoo.com/kb/index? ··· =SLN2620About CAPTCHA word verification

CAPTCHA (trademarked by Carnegie Mellon University) is a word verification code which Yahoo! uses to protect users against spam or other unauthorized account access. By entering the code, you verify that you are a human and not a spam-sending computer.
You may encounter a CAPTCHA code on Yahoo! when:
Sending an email containing HTML, links, embedded graphics, attachments Forwarding messages (chain letters, jokes, etc.) Performing too many failed sign in attempts Creating a new Yahoo! account
Note: If you are not able to see the characters in the CAPTCHA, click Try a new code. If you experience difficulty with the CAPTCHA code on a mobile device, please try sending the message using a PC instead. |

Just tried it from the web mail page; still not seeing it. My guess? You tripped some quantity threshold. Is there any way to bypass this annoyance???? Maybe reduce the number of emails sent for a while? |
