What's a "trackback"? Mozilla blog says that "comments are closed" but that "trackbacks are open". When I click on the link I just get taken back to the top of the blog. So, what is open? -- When governments fear people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. Thomas Jefferson |

Bruce Schneier: Government Secrets and the Need for Whistle-blowersA strong, detailed and concise statement from Bruce: "We need whistle-blowers.
Knowing how the government spies on us is important. Not only because so much of it is illegal -- or, to be as charitable as possible, based on novel interpretations of the law -- but because we have a right to know. Democracy requires an informed citizenry in order to function properly, and transparency and accountability are essential parts of that. That means knowing what our government is doing to us, in our name. That means knowing that the government is operating within the constraints of the law. Otherwise, we're living in a police state."» www.schneier.com/blog/ar ··· ecr.html-- Gladiator Security Forum |

That can generate a trackback - essentially, a small comment containing just the url of the blog post that refers to this one. -- AT&T Uverse; Buffalo WHR-300HP router (behind the 2wire gateway); openSuSE 12.3; firefox 21.0 |

Thanks for the info and for this site to get involved. We vote in and out governments, and they need to remember this. They do some good things nationally for countries, but to overstep the mark in this way, simply because there is no set rule to the Internet, and think the population does not care or mind is damaging to the term democracy to say the least. -- The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing - Edmund Burke

Or all the sites will be regularly DDOS'd and it will be the Chinese or Russians that is blamed and a new law allowing the gumbit full control as in the filter program advertised by the Aust gumbit.

That's why we have NSA, the big and fast growing super secret agency without any limits (neither financial nor legal)... So in a while, if everything is going as planned, the government will be ready to step it... Exactly as NSA's director said: -- Keep it simple, it'll become complex by itself... |

I watched a movie on J.Edgar Hoover and thought, FBI, NSA; the next one we probably won't even be told about for 10 years. |

And we'll probably get another jerk like J.McCarthy to deal with all of us who don't post on Facebook. |

You are right and I wouldn't like to see this turn into a political debate, but if the govt starts monitoring it's citizens, I would think the term Communism could be used and misconstrued in context to this sort of discussion.
