I'd throw an outlet in there, and put that monitor on an articulating arm, and put one more hole in the wall for the computer wires... more room on that desk for something else...

I used to have a red mushroom button on my desk at home just for that purpose, to make people ask. all it did was turn on my lamp

Would go with John Galt suggestion "A wall-mount swingarm light would be good for the computer desk since it is so small..."

Would allow you to turn off other lites not needed and still have good lighting for computer desk plus keyboard.

How about a flush mount wireless weather station?

Or mount an old ipod touch with wifi and use it as a poor man's sonos, zigbee controller.

Buy a wifi->ir box and use it with those cheap color changing lightbulbs they sell in amazon.

I think I'll settle for the 2 boring ones: Either an arm lamp or a usb hub. I'd prefer the arm lamp, I just gotta find a nice one with an embedded on/off switch, otherwise it will be USB hub by default.

The reason for the USB hub is because my computer is on the other side of the wall, so if we want to plug in stuff, either I have a USB hub that's loose on my desk, or the one in the wall (with a small shelf screwed to the wall right under the wall plate.
