use own modem with Comcast

I saw the motorola sb6121 modem as certified for Comcast.
Should I be able to buy this modem, and use it without paying Comcast for a rental. I would like to get it before install.
Thanks

Yes, you will be able to use the modem. I have Comcast and bought an SB6121 on Amazon and am using it with no problem. All you have to do, after you get the modem, is hook it up and than call Comcast and give them the MAC ID, which is listed on the bottom of the modem. You should than be good to go with no rental fees.

You should be able to use your own modem. I bought one for mine but have not ordered service yet as I need to get ready for the line to be run (trees cut back.)

On their application pages, it does ask if you have a modem.

As for the fee, they have been known to charge even if you own the modem. Hopefully not, we'll see.

If they do charge you it would be an error and you can get it reversed. Currently, you can use your own modem with no rental fees.
