Uverse throttling makes 24 Mbit/s a huge ripoff

i paid for 24 Mbit/s service, the fastest available at my location, only to watch my connection turn 720p streams into slideshows and choke out completely @ youtube.com

what is the point of paying a premium for high speed if i can only use it to download windows updates and produce a fraudulent speedtest report?

i can't wait until the houston broadband market enters the 21st century

You are seeing a youtube issue not a uverse issue. You can try and change your DNS serverse to pick up a different youtube server, but really thats all you can do.

Every ISP throttles YouTube. You would think that Google would sue the entire U.S. Broadband Industry for anti-trust violations!
[/sarcasm]

Show us the proof, or it isn't AT&T throttling. I mean actual packet captures demonstrating the throttle.

What makes you so sure they are throttling YouTube? Where's the evidence?

YouTube has a very complex network of cache servers and very high traffic so there's the possibility for many different problems.

Google is notorious for having maxed peering connections and leaving them that way for a long period of times. I had no problems maxing my speed 24/7 to my own server when I had uverse. Any problems with youtube are almost surely on google's end. On the eastcoast FIOS has tons of problems with youtube too but its actually fine for me on the westcoast. It depends on your location/market and how heavily googles peering links are used for your area to your ISP.

There are complaints in multiple provider forums about youtube throttling. I don't think it's the providers doing it; I think the problem is on youtube's end. Here's a long running topic in the Verizon FIOS forum about it, with some possible solutions that involve blocking certain youtube IP's. It's a long read.

It's always a conspiracy of throttling, even though not one person can ever show proof of it.

I concluded a long time ago I thought it was a youtube problem then. When my neighbor's charter cable and my AT&T dsl both throttle, that was two different medias, two different DNS, and two different connection points. That was the hands down sell for me it was a google/youtube problem.

Ironically if I use Atube catcher and download the video,99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 999999999999999% of the time I get full speed from youtube.com.
