Kudos to RCNTV

RCN has increased their number of STD set top boxes to THREE in the Lehigh Valley with their $39.99 service which includes 25 Mbs internet, and OTA television. In addition you can get Showtime/The Movie Channel and Starz for another $10. Since MagicJack and Netflix is always an option, a household can get all their basic networking covered for a little over $50/month and enjoy a significant choice for commercial free TV.
----------
That is very affordable service, the kind that the government wants everyone to be able to access. It is also being done within the restrictions of a profit making enterprise.

A little over? that $50 would be $70 to $75 with taxes.

Free - 3 standard definition STB's
$39.99 for 25 Mbs internet & OTA cable
$7.95 for Showtime/The Movie Channel
$2.00 for Starz
State sales tax is 6% in Pennsylvania (roughly $3)
Cable franchise fee (Not sure how it is calculated , but $1.68 for me)

If you purchase MagicJack or Vonage you don't have to pay RCN phone fees or taxes.

The taxes and fees on cable/internet should be less than $5.

I realize that this rate is a 12 month teaser rate, but the basic package will only increase $8 per year.

The premium movie package (Show/TMC/Starz) does retail for $21.95 a year, so if they should raise the rates to that point, then you have to make a decision.
