Most do or should deselect Jusched.exe from MSCONFIG if you don't want Java phoning home all the time. Thread back from May that's relevant to this: » Oracle renumbers Java patch updates |

Apple too!I just got Apple's "APPLE-SA-2013-06-18-1 Java for OS X 2013-004 and Mac OS X v10.6 Update 16" e-mail. No Java for my computers. Good thing it didn't come out last Tuesday with Adobe and MS. :P |

Thanks. Now that would be a third party offering only provided at » java.com/en/download/manual.jsp correct? said by StuartMW:I think not Expect another version in the next few months... No assumptions or 'expectations' required. Oracle publishes the schedule for Java Critical Updates a year in advance, with one release per quarter. The dates are listed in each advisory for the next four updates. For what it is worth, as noted in the current advisory: The next scheduled dates for Oracle Java SE Critical Patch Updates are:
15 October 2013 14 January 2014 15 April 2014 15 July 2014
Now, if new vulnerabilities become known publicly before the next update Oracle would release an out-of-band update. I think history for these speaks for itself. . . Edit: The schedule along with history (including links to advisories) of all previous releases may be found at » www.oracle.com/technetwo ··· 861.html |

Some people need Java. Some people don't need it but like it. Some people don't need Java and don't like it. Many from all camps recognize it has its good points and bad points.
Me, I dropped it a couple of months ago and have never looked back with any regrets on Windows. |

Hmmm... I don't do over the top installs with Java. Unless my traced uninstalls with Revo are not completely removing Java before re-installing it via Oracle.com... I have never been presented with a third party offer. Almost certain the installer from Java.com vs Oracle.com, are different. Also, thanks for the release notes. -- Remember that cool hidden "Graffiti Wall" here on BBR? After the name change I became the "owner", so to speak as it became: Dustyn's Wall »[Tech] RIP

FWIW, I installed over the top using the java.com release and got the ask.com offer. -- "It turns out we're very good at not seeing things" - Jack Hitt |

I don't know if it is Windows 8 or Java or both that are SHIT. I updated and verified from Java panel in Control Panel that I have the latest version installed. However, EVERY browser says I do NOT have the latest version when I do the Java verification test. I closed all browsers after the installation which I had to do from Opera as Fx and IE gave me the nasty Oracle you have not accepted our terms crap that I have happen every time I use any browser other than Opera. I had to allow about 40 cookies in Opera just to be able to download it. After closing the browsers, I reopened them and did the verification test which FAILED on every browser yet Java Panel says I have the latest version as does IE Addons. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty.
