DVR plus recording space expansion coming

In the equipment information insert in my bill was this line about DVR Plus.

Coming soon, you'll be able to record up to 10 shows at once and store up to 300 hours of SD and 75 hours of HD programming.

Right now it's 25 hours of HD programming correct? I wonder if it is going to be more money or if it will stay the same price and everyone gets the upgrade.

Well it didn't say "option" for more space so I would assume it will be a free upgrade. Storage space is very inexpensive now.

Do they plan on fixing the speed of the system? Also they have been offering more space at an additional fee for a wile, at least I was offered it at $10 month then for free when I called to disconnect.

Must be a CT only thing. Here in Brooklyn we only have one option for DVR Plus.

Don't think it is an advertised thing or offered other than one someone complains about the amount of space. The cancellation department seems to do anything now a days to keep someone from canceling.

Well that makes no sense if they would keep it a secret. I am sure a ton of people would love more space. I am waiting for my next bill to see if that information about more space coming is on it.

Saw this with my bill also. It'd be great if it was included at no extra cost.

Also interested in the part that said

"Currently Picture-In-Picture, instant replay of live TV with the replay button
and the ability to set up manual recordings are not available."

I wonder if they are trying to include any of these features with DVR Plus.

This is the #1 reason why I have stayed away from DVRPlus. Being a dumb multitasker who often does more than one thing while watching television, I often use the "Rewind Live TV" feature of the classic DVR system. I can't give that up.

You could always pause for a few seconds and resume. You will then be able to rewind.

DVR Plus is no "Plus" if it is short on features currently offered over plain old DVR system currently offered by Cablevision.

I wouldn't transition to "Plus" until it really offers more (features and performance).

In some cases it offers less but in some cases it already offers more.
* You can record 4 (soon to be 10) shows at once with DVR Plus.
* You can watch those recordings on any box in your house.

I don't think Plus replaces the physical DVR. It is a good add-on though and at only $5.00 more per month it is a bargain. We have both and tend to use Plus more.

Just received a automated call from Optimum that the DVR Plus service will be unavailable on 6/28 from midnight to 8 am so they can "upgrade our dvr plus platform" and that "these enhancements will bring you an improved dvr plus experience".

Might be the storage upgrade mentioned in the bill insert.

It would be nice to see if this is actually the increased storage

I never understood the reasoning between limitations on how many things you can simultaneously record on DVR plus while staying within your allotted storage space.

I asked a rep about the update tonight. It is NOT for storage...here is the response I got...

"The enhancements to DVR Plus this evening are not to increase the storage capacity, although we do have plans for that in the future. The upgrade tonight is to improve upon the overall user experience of DVR Plus. Please keep in mind if you have any recordings scheduled between 12am-8am, they may not record properly."

For every show that you record there is a data stream. The more shows you can record simultaneously the more equipment needed to handle the data flow to the hard drives. In the actual physical DVR you are limited by the number of tuners, but of course they could have added more tuners. In the rs-dvr to record more shows at once, you need added equipment to handle the data flow to the hard drive, plus the hard drive will only be able to record x amount of data per unit of time. So as with anything there is a tradeoff of offering features to attract users, such as the ability to record more shows, versus the cost of the added features.

I can never see a situation where I'd be recording 8 things at once. 4 is a pretty safe number where you can say "over 4 = unlimited" for more than 95% of people. That was what I meant by saying limits are pointless.

It depends on how many people you have in your house. If there is 1 or 2 people, 4 shows is probably enough, though just for me there are times when I have used 4 tuners, since it sometimes seems everything I want to watch is on at the same time.

If there are 4-6 people 4 "tuners" certainly may not cover it.
