Re: DVR plus recording space expansion coming

Because it is completely false and I was curious why he would bother answering without knowing the facts

None of us really know the answer because those who have it, do have at least one non DVR box. Before the now guide came out, and for those of us in CT with SA boxes that was just a couple of weeks ago, you could not set up DVR plus recordings from the SA8300. With the new guide we have the option to record to either when looking at the guide from the SA8300 but that may only be because we have a non DVR box on our account. If you don't have a non DVR box on your account then, perhaps, that option won't be there, rendering the Multi Room DVR useless. So once again, none of really know the answer so we have to take Cablevision's word.

Hence my confusion...

However, you do say that you have one of the DVR+ boxes...

CV seems to try so hard to make me hate them and that is about the only successful thing that they do in my eyes. I just don't understand why they restrict the storage so much, that is my biggest problem. Right now, I have 3 DVRs, and 2 of them have 1 TB expansion drives on them. So, in order to go to this new system, I have to switch one out and, of course, lose all my shows.

For a savings of $15/month, I'd personally find a way to make it work. Even if it's dropping one DVR box for a non-DVR box and Multi-Room DVR, and recording some things via MR-DVR to get a little replacement of the built up library before you drop the second box.

Probably they had not tried with the new guide. Why not not simply leave out the first 2 lines and say

Completely false
How can you make a statement like this?

I have one SA 8300 dvr and one new Samsung box
I have always set my dvr plus recordings from my SA 8300 without issue

Exactly - I have not tried it with the new guide and had no idea this could be done. My reply is absolutely correct under the old guide - there was no way to do it from an 8300 box. And, CT only got the new guide a few weeks ago - and as I don't like it, I use the website to set up recordings.

The reaction to my "error" was way over the top.

I guess I should just lurk and not post in the future.

I also used channel 905 to do the DVR+ storage upgrade and had my io gold package downgraded to broadcast basic. I called customer service and they were confused why it happened and restored my service.

I have not had any issues with my internet service.

Be careful with channel 905. I used it and immediately every box and tivo in my house went black. I just got off the phone with them, took the poor woman 45 minutes to figure out what happened and then she had to completely redo my account.

Now my Cable Modem is rebooting every 10 minutes... if it does not stabilize I'm going to call them back later...

Not sure how a DVR+ upgrade can delete entire TV packages from the account but apparently it can...

I actually can't use channel 905...if it loads at all and isn't a pixelated mess, it tells me to call CV.

You cannot set up recordings to DVR Plus from a DVR (8300) box. You would have to do it through the website or an app. So for that reason, I don't think they will give you DVR Plus without a non-DVR Box.

You can set up recordings from any set top box.

I went to CV today and tried to get them to add multi-room to my setup of 3 HD DVRs...they again said that it was impossible, I would have no way to record and watch shows. I was skeptical based on what I was seeing here and have now verified that it is possible.

I reluctantly took the new box that they made me get, but did not hook it up at all. When I got home, I turned my existing HD DVR box to channel 1001 and have full access to DVR+. I also verified that anytime I push record, there is an option to go to DVR+ or local DVR. So, it can be done, the new question will be what their system does if I try to return the DVR+ box, but have them try to keep DVR+ service on there.

The fact that you need at least one non dvr box is probably a cv policy rather than a technical reason

I bet if you return non dvr box it would still work, unless they go into your account and remove dvr plus. Doubt they would take that extra step.

I tried to do what your saying were you have all dvrs then swap one of the boxes for a non-dvr then return that box back for a dvr and again have all dvr's and keep the DVR Plus. From my own personal experience the DVR Plus works for maybe up to two weeks or so but it will eventually switch to not authorized you won't loose your DVR Plus recordings they will become dormant and you will then have to go back to the optimum store and make sure you put back at least one non-dvr box. I think its so stupid that you can't have DVR Plus as an add-on to the internal HDD DVRS but this is probably cablevisions way to push people over to the cloud.

Thanks Remy. Any way of knowing whether it's improvable? What would need to happen for it to be better? Say close to having the DVR box in house?

I actually have been having issues with recordings, some recording will only have a black screen for the entire hour of the show and other recording will stop 20 - 30 mins after the show has begun. Used to work fine up until last Thursday. Put a call in and the tech re-authorized the Samsung boxes but still having the recording issues.
Honestly most of the shows I watch are available On-Demand, I am thinking of cancelling MR-DVR and saving a few bucks.

The responsiveness is god-awful. Just about unbearable. Possibly, it they had figured out how far to skip-back when hitting play after fast forwarding it would be bearable, but as is, it's a near deal breaker for me. Why doesn't my replay/skip-back button work with DVR+?

Seeing this in "action" has now made my decision easier, I am getting a TiVo again when the new models come out. It's 2013, if this is all that CV can crap out, they don't deserve my money for it. I'll gladly pay TiVo more for a vastly superior product.

Question about DVR Plus.

Does anyone experience this?: Box is 8300HD

When watching a DVR Plus recorded program, and you use the fastest level of FF (It's 5 levels/speed) After a few seconds it kicks you out, & returns to the program(you are currently watching) screen. The screen where it says Play, Resume, Restart, etc... But here's the second thing, Resume isn't a choice, because it clears the recorded program as if you watched it completely.

This 100% doesn't happen when using ANY of the other FF speeds/levels. Only when you use the highest FF speed. It kicks you out, then the program resets. So for example you taped the Emmy's (over three hours) You are watching the show and about 1 1/2 into it you decide to FF at the highest speed. It stops/kicks you out, and you now have to start from the beginning of the show, because you can't Resume at the point where you just got kicked out.

Thanks,

I never use that speed because it is too fast. I think that speed is too fast for the system also and just jumps to the end of the recording.

With the slow response of commands I think you are correct

That's what I was thinking. But it doesn't "zip" to the end. It just abruptly stops. You can visually see the FF barely moved through five minutes of "screen" time. I could see if it was a half hour program. But for programs around 2 hours, it shouldn't FF all the way to the end in under 4 seconds. That's ridiculously too fast. I wish there was chapter stops. Like 1 every 15 minutes.

I called & the rep said it shouldn't do that at all. Could have been lying, but he said his own DVR Plus at his house works fine at the fastest FF speed. And that this was the first call that he ever heard of this problem.

Maybe it's just my house, it's strange because the picture quality is exceptional on all TV's and I have no other problems with the DVR Plus service.

It happens to me too I don't understand why. When you go to a program it freezes for a few seconds then it works. I think they need to fix these bugs.

I have the same problem on certain channels. Most notably MSG and ESPN. I've had talks with engineering about it but it still hasn't been resolved.

Anyone heard if they will fix the bad lapse when fast forwarding and rewinding it? It's pretty much impossible to stop the video at the desired location. My kids a begging for TiVo back.

I was told by an engineer that they are constantly working on that.
