Re: Really - cell phones don't work in the air ?
If a cell phone worked on a 14,000 ft mountain 20 years ago then there was line of site from the phone to the tower and the tower had to of been at a very high elevation also or pointing slightly upward. A rural cell tower could possibly go 20 miles especially 20 years ago when cell towers were more sparse, but in a city a cell tower goes like 1 mile.
I also dont think the cell tower or the mountain was moving at 450 mph.
When flying in a plane even at 5000ft with a cell broadcasting upward you would be out of range of the tower in 15 seconds max.
Cell sites in the country side also broadcast with much more power than in a city. The more dense the cell towers in an area the lower the transmitter power for the cells in that area so they can share frequencies without jamming each other.
