Re: Cable ISP Can

Once TWC goes all digial they will free up a lot of bandwidth. They have started already with Mount Vernon, Staten Island and currently Souther Manhattan. Next are the other boroughs. Once this is all completed Im pretty sure speeds will be raised. I know the C4 cmts have 8x4, but the Cisco 10k are 4x4 for the time being. It has more to do how fast cisco or arris provides safe and reliable software for those CMTS.

They also recently cleaned up the channel guide. Any channel that is a duplicate was removed for more storage capacity and better HD picture including sound.

Have a good day.

All of the above sounds so great and appears there is a plan although it's taking toooooo long. However, cisco's and arris's software can not be believed to be the reason for the delay since other cable providers have the same CMTS, what it appears is just that TWC had a late start but who knows maybe they are just reluctant to spend more money in areas they don't have much competitions and as a whole everyone is affected.
You might have a reason for being an anon, however, it's not a natural way to believe anonymous persons.

CMTS wise, twc cant deploy area wide speed upgrades if one 10k is 4x4 and another arris is 8x4. The 4x4 nodes are going to have issues with speed upgrades because of the little capacity available.

Ill tell you this twc has been upgrading backend and outside plant everyday for months to years. Managment now adays is coming down pretty hard on bad technicians. So changes are coming, hopefully soon.

If the 10k 4x4 is the reason for the delay, why not replace it? It's the direction twc will go anyway. Justifications is not a reason nowadays, if twc is serious in making the subscribers happy, they should invest a little for better services.

Cmts are not easy to replace they serve 10,000+ people. Also you have no idea how much it costs about 3.5 to 4.5 million. Try replacing 10+ cmts in one hub or headend.

Thing is, download speeds are decent enough. Upload speeds are more the issue. And 4x4 vs. 8x4 doesn't matter on the upload side.

If other cable providers can, there is no reason twc can't. It's probably a result of being complacent. These are still DOCSIS 3.0 upgrades that has not been completed while the other cable providers are already talking about D3.1.

You dont understand everything has to be carefully engineered cmts swap the downtime, cooling, power, node, port swap. 10k vs arris c4 differ in design not as easy as you mention. There is other everyday work like building out new hubs and expanding, including upgrading their network.

Every cable provider is talking about D3.1 its going to revolutionize the cable industry. Slowly all cable providers are toying with IP video for instance your IPAD app. Once we go full digital and IP video things should be better easier. Of course once the kinks are worked out.

Your subscribers doesn't need to understand the technical part of your upgrade, it's your companies job to make sure it's maintained in a timely manner if you wish to compete. Today is not like yesterday, consumers have other choices.

Words are cheap, subscribers are still waiting for your D3 completion.

I did, I went to FIOS. I can't go to a cable company cause they don't compete in this area. It's bad for my other relatives and friends though they don't have other choice.
You sound like you're satisfied with what you're getting from TWC, are you?

we know its not cheap and can be disruptive to upgrade. If cablevision and Comcast can do it so can TWC. Just that CEO Glenn britt is cheap.
