From all of the research I did before buying my D7100 a few days ago, I gathered that if you're upgrading from a lesser model or from a different brand, go with the D7100. But it's generally not worth upgrading from a D7000 to a D7100.

On a different note, if you had the K-r, why not get a K-5 IIs? Sounds as good or better than the D7100.

Eventually I plan on buying something like a D800 (maybe a D4 as used prices drop) later down the road. I am willing to spend more money on glass than the body in the beginning. That way later down the road when I buy a higher end body I will have the lenses that will work well with it.

I assume you don't have too may Pentax lenses then. I'd get the d7000 if you plan on switching relatively soon. I'm not sure the d7100 necessarily gets you terribly much more. Now if you were planning on staying with a DX sensor camera, then I'd say the d7100.

If you do what you are planning, make sure you buy the FX glass!

I just ordered a D7100 to replace my D-60. I'm looking for performance at low lighting conditions (high ISO), the D7100 is a great camera for this application.

It doesn't do all that great for burst mode, as its internal buffer is lacking. However, it's "good enough" for what I need.

There are a lot of other features that come with the D7100 that are not on the D7000. I went with the D7100 because buyer's remorse can last a l-o-n-g time.

I used fine quality jpegs for burst mode and it was fine. I'd have preferred faster raw, but this wasn't bad for what I needed to do.

I think the D7100 was a great choice as an upgrade for my D70. Plus I have a couple of other lenses that I'm glad I'm able to use.

I've been using a Pentax K-r for about two years and no matter what I do I just can't seem to take pictures that are as sharp as a 6MP Canon Rebel I once had.

I've been to Best Buy a half dozen times to Fondle the d7000, d7100, and the similar Canon's. I don't like the layout of the Canons so I am down to a d7000 or d7100 with plans to buy a used d800 later down the road. So I may just go ahead with the d7100 now and buy a d800 in a year or so.

If you really want to move up in the near future, why not buy a used D7000? You'd probably take a bit less of a hit if you end up getting rid of it in a year. But I don't know what your uses are gong to be to say that you don't want/need the incremental features of the D7100.

If I get a 7000 or 7100 I plan on keeping when I buy the next body.

Does the buffer really matters on d7100 for shooting raw in burst mode? Pictures from D7000 has better colors than d7100 what I felt. Do you need 51 focus points compared to 39 in d7000.

That's not the camera.

Yea I know. Another reason for switching to Nikon is the better selection of lenses.

I know what you are getting at, and it's really not what I'm getting at. But if one isn't getting sharp pictures, it's not because one is using Brand A or Brand B instead of Brand C. With the exception of specific use lenses, you can find top notch glass of all types for most every brand out there.

I don't care what anyone uses. However I don't like anyone thinking any one brand is incapable of sharp pics (or whatever one seeks). You may not have the best combination for that brand, but they all have good and bad combinations.
