Re: Legendary Quest Line I was able to complete it being assassination spec with shuriken throw talented. I also had very many attempts and besides the RNG which is very much a factor in this fight I ended up just walking away that night and letting it sit, came back the next day and did it in about 4 tries. I think aggravation gets the better and then trying to rush the fight which doesn't work for the melee challenge.
During my successful attempt I had 2 mirror phases and I think 3 sets of oozes spawn, what helped was using FoK to burn down adds and finish them off with shuriken toss while I kept Wrathion blinded to prevent him from doing anything while I handled adds and it would give me enough time in between to down the adds and get some dps time on him.
You can't rush through it, the pace needs to be timed right as well with your CD's for maximum efficiency when using them so the dps isn't wasted. I think it took me a total of 2 1/2 hours of attempts to get him down. My ilvl at the time was around 520 so not much off from yours. Hope this input helps you complete the challenge. |

It annoys me no end that a class can get stitched up with things like this. It's common knowledge that the tank and the heal versions are significantly easier than the ranged and melee one, with the melee one being the hardest of them all. To make matters worse, the beefier melee classes can just go tank and faceroll it, whilst the glass cannon class has no such option.
Whilst the other pure DPS classes are also suffering, rogues have it a lot worse as the melee is harder than the ranged. I feel for you guys. |

Every melee person I know has struggled then given up and gone tank/heal. Rogue's don't have such an option and as posts here confirm, it's hard.
At least the ranged seem to be able to do it without major issues, once they know the drop aggro thing. |

Rogue's don't have such an option and as posts here confirm, it's hard. It's not so much that it's hard, which it is, but that it's frustratingly random. I did 15-20 more tries on my combat rogue last night and this morning, with my best attempt getting him to 27% before a third wave of bloods spawned that I had no cooldowns left for because I had just killed the second wave 5-10 seconds earlier. I feel like I'm completely dependent on the RNG giving me a "good roll" to even fair moderately well though. In some attempts, I get a second set of bloods within five seconds of the first dying, and there's no way to survive, or he runs to summon clones at the exact second bloods spawn, so I get killed by one or the other while trying to deal with them, while on others, it's more spread out and I actually feel like I have some chance.
There are certainly attempts where I screw things up and deserve to die, but it just seems wrong to me that on two attempts where I can do things pretty much correctly and almost identically, I'll get him under 30% on one and die at 80% on the other purely because the bloods spawned immediately after each other or some other random timing issue occurred. -- Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering? Well ranged have an area they can run to that puts them out of aggro range of the blobs (I know its a cheat but what ev.)
when I tried doing it properly if I kept it up it would have been a long fight as I would have had to keep killing oozes and not gotten hardly any time on wrathion, then you gotta kill the oldest one first or it'll speed up to much and kill you. (do able but I'd say doing it proper would make it just as hard or harder than melee)
if you want to see the ranges "stage" and how it lets us "cheat" go to the jade temple and you see how it has the rectangular room, well the proper way is to stay in that section, the cheat involves the balcony out past where the dragon is hovering. -- semper idem 1KTzRMxN1a2ATrtAAvbmEnMBoY3E2kHtyv |

Pryck join:2012-02-03 Fredericksburg, VA | The main difference I see in difficulty since they both seem to have the same mechanics is ranged are able to use their primary dps abilities on the oozes where some melee (rogues) have to use their thrown weapon because can't get too close or the damage will eventually kill you. The Shuriken helps but it's no where near the damage from actual melee combat so it takes a super long time and balancing CD's and dps time just to get 30 sec or more in between ooze spawns of dps on Wrathion. Very trying indeed... |

No, there's no balcony or other area for the melee quest (at least that I've been able to find or seen mentioned anywhere). If you go towards the temple entry, he despawns, and the rest of the room is an enclosed circle. -- Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering? Last week I did ToT part 4 first, as is my custom as I like getting the "harder" bits done whilst the better players still need it too. 10/12 runestones. This left me 3 bosses of part 3 that week, and 3 bosses of part 3 this week, as well as a further 2 from part 4 this week before the guaranteed one from Lei Shen. At worst case scenario I'd have to kill Lei Shen twice, for his heart. so 8 kills for just 1 runestone. Good odds.
Sadly not. Part 3 last week offered no runestones, this week I down part 3 first with no runestones and neither of the 2 in part 4 dropped one either. My worst week for runestones and it's the one when my cloak is so close.
What makes it worse is my mate, like me, got 4 runestones one week, but then went and got another 4 the following week. So he's done with it, 2 weeks ahead of me and I started the week before him! |

Kinda sad, really. You still feel like you earned the cloak even though you had to use a known exploit to get it? I'm sure if guilds used a known exploit to kill a boss you'd be up in arms, no? |

I finally beat the melee challenge after probably 60 total tries. I'm relieved it's over, but still feel like this quest is extremely buggy and also too dependent on random luck. The attempt I finally won on, I survived two waves of tears, then killed him as the third wave reached me and knocked me down to around 50% health (another 3-5 seconds and I would have been dead). -- Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering? Probably one of the toughest challenges I've ever faced in WoW..... but i finally completed the melee challenge. I dont know how many attempts. Probably a hundred? Took me two hours of nonstop attempts. Really, really tough. I really feel like I earned this cloak. -- Polluxx - LvL 90 Human Warrior - (US) Ravencrest |

My worst week for runestones and it's the one when my cloak is so close. RNG Gods really hate me. 1 runestone left to go, fresh week.
LFR-3 yielded no runestones for a 3rd week on the trot. No biggie, I'm bound to get one from the first 2 of LFR-4 as this is a huge dry spell, so I park myself near Wrathion so I can teleport out and back quickly.
LFR-4 only gave me the 1 runestone from Lei Shen. So I need to do him again, annoying really as if I knew this I 'd have just done LFR-4 twice.
So yeah my dry spell (other than Lei Shen) consisted of LFR-3 x 3 (9 bosses) and LFR-4 x 2 (4 bosses). 13 in total and in theory, still hasn't ended.
I did get 2 of the Raiding of Leashes II pets though, just one of those left now. |

Ooo forgot about this thread.
Got my cape the week after 5.4 as it was an absolute pain to find groups killing Celestials. Well you'd get a group, who'd kill one celestial then everyone would drop group. Group 2 was quite often the same one you just killed. |

So it is likely that I'll be working on another toon that isn't yet through the Secrets yet in the near future. At this rate I'll be lucky to get the cloak before the next expansion.
As of earlier this week, I'm finally through the Valor Champion portion on Desecration, my toon in PnE on Ravencrest. So now it will be time to go back into BGs with a PvE toon.
