Re: Official 2013 CFL Thread

Hamilton is clearly a work in progress, this is a team that won't be .500 at season's end but will at least show signs of life.

B.C. on the other had seems to be caught in a seizurefest of its own making, showig signs of brilliance coupled with signs of utter incompetence...

Made for tough sledding watching that game...

Bombers/Rider Nation game was good for one half. After Rider Nation took the opening possession down for a touchdown, game was pretty much decided. Bombers did put up a good fight during the 1st half which is better than most would have predicted. Glass half-full, rather than half-empty. Rider Nation's big advantage was in the coordinators. Seriously, who would you pick: a George Cortez offense or a Casey Creehan defense?

Another never-say-die Eskimo effort that fell short on Monday. Mike Reilly pretty much looked like he had been in a car wreck as he is constantly getting hit. His team is down 30 in the 4th with the Jonathan Crompton ready to come into the game the next series. Reilly then leads to Eskimos to 4 touchdowns, cuts the deficit to 3, and has the ball with a minute left. Unfortunately, the Eskimos could not get into field goal range during their final possession.

In tonight's game, Argos continue to struggle putting up points and end up scoring only 8. Among the mishaps from the Argos include: Pre missing a short field goal, a botched hold on a field goal attempt, Callaros fumbling a ball that is picked up and gone the other way for a TD, Inman fumbling away deep in the Als end when it looked like the Argos were on the move, and the Argos themselves failing to go after what could have been on a fumble by Marsh.

Result means this is the second time a 2nd Division Team has beaten a 1st Division Team. Both times it was done by the Als.

Former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith made his CFL debut tonight and took one snap. Only play he ran was an option where he handed the ball to Arland Bruce III.

So Ed Hervey calls out Simeon Rottier and says that Rottier will not start this week & does not care if he even plays another down this year. No GM ever calls out players in public like that. Even if that is what Hervey believes, saying so does not help you if you want to trade him. It is not as though Rottier was released, put on the injured or suspended list either. Unlike the GM, Kavis Reed was not harsh at all toward Rottier. In fact, he was sort of sympathetic. Today, Rottier was there on the practice field with the 2nd team for the most part, but also with the 1st team at other times.

Everybody knows Reilly needs better protection. However, this deficiency is hardly new for the Eskimos. Even during the last seasons Ricky Ray was there, the Eskimos were struggling to complete a pass without Ray getting hit. By the way, who was the Eskimo's Head Scout during these last few years when the offensive line has been bad? That would be Ed Hervey.

Hervey also mentioned that there will be a change at who is calling the offensive plays. Yet, Doug Sams' role apparently has not changed at all.

I do not know if anybody is playing politics over there in Edmonton. But, I believe it would not be too hard to get the GM slot because Hervey is just making himself look dysfunctional.

Not a big surprise that Calgary won both against Edmonton. Game was much more exciting last week. Although Hugh O'Neill's 2 misses did not help matters, the results probably would have been the same. Benching Simeon Rottier and not letting Doug Sams call "critical plays" did not seem to improve the offense as the Eskimos only scored 12 points.

To be honest I'm not really keen on having Ottawa back as the only thing I wonder is how long they will last before folding up again as they have a repeated history of doing so. If they do fold again can we just give up on the experiment and let a team in from the east coast as I believe they could be the Saskatchewan of the east with equally rabid fans and that is just good for everyone.

In short Ottawa has to prove they are truly worthy of the CFL as they have let us down before and our trust level has taken a beating.

It pains us in Calgary as we love playing Edmonton when they are good and worthy opponents and we take no joy from beating them when they suck, and I'm sure the feeling is mutual with those bastards up north. A healthy Calgary/Edmonton rivalry is just good for everyone and everything. Come on Edmonton we are pulling for ya to get better, and maybe someday we can get back to where the battle of Alberta means something in hockey as well (we both need to get better on the ice).

Re: Official 2013 CFL Thread

Didn't Edmonton just play yesterday? How come they were playing against the Flying Wildcats today? Lulay is getting hit all day as the Lions eventually fall behind by 26. Then C. J. Gable fumbles, Burris throws a pick, and the Lions cut the lead to 8. Last play of the game, the Lions try the multiple laterals plays but fall short. This game had all the characteristics of something involving the Eskimos.

Lions were the 1st team to lose to a 2nd Division team. Lions are now the first 1st Division team to lose twice to a 2nd Division team.

Lion's defense sucks.......it's as if they think Lulay can do everything all the time.

And then when he sees how bad the D is playing he tries too hard to do it all himself.

Bad coaching.

The Lions have traded receiver Akeem Foster to Winnipeg for quarterback Buck Pierce. Pierce spent five seasons with BC last decade.

This makes no sense at all...........Pierce has had a dozen concussions and injuries!!!!!!

btB

@rr.com

I thought Pierce was injured and could not play against the Riders. Anyway, maybe the Lions got Pierce to demonstrate what can happen if OL does not protect Lulay. Maybe the Lions want somebody to leave unprotected for the upcoming expansion draft. Regardless, I do not see the Lions giving Pierce much playing time at all.

It was a wild one in game 1 as it was mostly one team taking advantage of the other one's mistakes. In the first half, it looked like a repeat of Tuesday's game where the Als just took advantage of Argo miscues. Difference though was that Zach Collaros was at least moving the ball even though he was constantly getting hit. Tanner Marsh on the other hand, was not moving the offense much all as the Als had a lead. In the 2nd half, Argos switched to a quick passing game, took advantage of Al's turnovers, and came back from 15 to pull it out. Argos did have to rely on a Marsh interception in the end zone at the end of the game to secure the win.

Gotta give it up for Casey Creehan's defense in game 2. Bomber's offense had 22 total yards in the 1st half with zero first downs. Fans were even booing their home team when Goltz took a knee just before halftime as the Bombers were trailing. Rider Nation this season usually explodes in the 3rd quarter. Today, they were held to 1 point for the entire 2nd half. Durant was sacked about 8 times and threw for less than 150 yards. Goltz's stats were a little worse than Durant's, but he had 2 rushing touchdowns.

I just heard on the local late night news that the Esks are favoured to win against the Bombers this coming weekend. Hooray!

btB

@rr.com

You do realize the betting line is not an expert prediction on who will win the game. Instead, it is a marker set to evenly divide up the bettors for each side. On the other hand, I don't see why they can't find some way to win at home against the Bombers.

For tonight's game, I thought the Ti-Cats might win as they were up in the 4th quarter. Congi hits the upright on a field goal attempt, Stamps convert on a 3rd and 6, and then Webb is called for facemask to extend the drive before they score a TD with a little over a minute left in the game. Ti-Cats are now down 4 instead of 1 or 3. Burris would get the offense into field goal range but is intercepted in the endzone on the final play of the game.

Dam the CFL is exciting stuff and excellent entertainment value, last nights game had pretty much everything to keep the fans on the edge of their seat to the very end of the game and even a heck of a nice night to watch a game weather wise.

Another don't leave early game in the CFL as the boatmen take out the stubble jumpers with a 31 - 29 score, which gives Calgary sole ownership of first place. Nothing is better then the CFL for emotional roller coaster rides.

Eskimos finally win one at home in game 1. Well, it was against the Bombers, but I am sure they will take it. After the big win last week against Rider Nation, the Bomber are back to their old ways. That would mean trying to figure out who is at quarterback. Goltz plays the 1st half, and the Bombers put up 3 points. Hall plays the 2nd, and they score 4. Seriously; the revolving door at QB in Winnipeg is getting silly.

In game 2, it was another wild up & down game for the Argos. First, they take advantage of Rider Nation mistakes and take an 11-0 lead. After that and until the 4th quarter, the Argo offense pretty much looked like crap as they fell behind 23-12. Then all of a sudden Collaros somehow puts up 19 points in the 4th and the Argos win by 2 as the Riders fail on a 2 point conversion with 14 seconds left. Game should not have come down to that, but Swayze Waters missed a 32 yard field goal and got only a single point with under a minute left which kept the game within one possession.

btB

@rr.com

Watch the game from Sunday today. No-contest. Marsh gets benched. Neiswander frankly looked worse. Als' defense is only good if they blitz. To counter the blitz, everybody has figured out that they just need to use a 3-step passing offense against them.

Lulay looked like he dislocated his shoulder. I would expect him to miss a few games at least. But hey, I am not a doctor.

Re: Official 2013 CFL Thread

Another game with the Eskimos falling behind (17-0) and trying to make a comeback. They have better luck this time thanks to the Bombers who missed multiples chances at intercepting Reilly. Biggest near-miss was from Demond Washington who tipped the ball on a desperation 3rd & 10 throw with just over a minute left in the game & the Eskimos down by 3. Fred Stamps ends up with the ball and a 51 yard gain which helped setup the game tying field goal. Bombers get the ball back with under a minute left and take a knee. Their fans boo them. After the Bombers lose in overtime after not be able to convert on 3rd and 29, their fans booed them again as the Eskimos ended up scoring the last 24 points of the game.

Game 1 was exciting yesterday provided you for some reason like watching the Als getting a penalty on almost every play. Difference in the game was the special teams which meant that former Als defensive coordinator Jeff Reinbold got the best of his former team. There was a Ti-Cat fake field goal for a touchdown. Als fumbled away a punt return in their own end zone. Superior punting by Josh Bartel compared to Sean Whyte. Ti-Cats blocking an extra point. Ti-Cats able to get something on a punt return whereas the Als often lost yardage.

Great game in game 2. Felt like a playoff game. Three times, late in the game the Stamps almost scored a touchdown. Once to Brad Sinopoli, but that was called back because the refs called an illegal pick on Jabari Arthur. Second was when a desperation throw in the endzone was caught out of bounds by Anthony Parker. Third was when the Arthur tried an onside kick at the end of the game after making a reception from Kevin Glenn. Even though the last attempt was not that close to happening, it made the game seem more important than just a regular season game. Pretty impressive for the Argos to win consecutive road games against the Riders and Stamps.

Bloody bush league refs try and control every game..........no way that is a roughing penalty on B.C..

But they comeback with the 2nd string QB ..........AND WIN ON A LATE FG

24-22..........great game other than the blind fucking refs.

It was the old guy and the new guy for the Lions today. Old guy Paul McCallum was constantly punting deep in his own end. Yet, the Lions never took a safety or gave Rider Nation automatic field goal range. The new guy Thomas DeMarco did not have much help at the beginning of the game as his receivers did little to help move the ball. After Buck Pierce came in for a series, the receivers seemed to wake up.

Lions almost blew the game on a roughing the passer call after a 3rd and 15 pass play from Durant came up short. After the reprieve, Durant leads the Riders to a TD to put the Riders up by 1. Then it is the new guy again DeMarco who completed a couple big passes to get into field goal range for the old guy who hits a walk-off 42 yard field goal. Exciting game.

I was also flipping between the Lions game and the Seahawks game. The Lions game was frustrating for the first half, but the 2nd half got really interesting. The Seahawks game wasn't much of a contest.
