said by linicx:The cops around here (Springfield, MA) encourage people to buy monitored alarm systems. Even the cops themselves have burglar alarms.
Before you buy, call your 911 manager. Where I live in rural America the 911 system does NOT handle ADT type calls.
Our neighbor across the street is a cop and he has an alarm.
When the other side of my duplex was broken into, that eventually made me decide to invest in an alarm.
When the building was sold, I talked the new landlord into installing deadbolts. I installed them but she paid for them. The old landlord was adamantly against deadbolts for some reason. The new landlord is a little more lenient too as she doesn't mind our cat.
The burglar alarm I installed is wireless so it did not require modifying the house other than a few wall anchors and tying an RJ31X jack into the phone line.
I have it monitored by a local alarm company.
I've experienced ImOn (when they were McLeod USA), Mediacom, Comcast, and Time Warner and I currently have DirecTV. They are much better than broadcast TV.
I have not and will not cut the cord.
