6.9.1.42-enh.tm Firmware - What Improvements? Before New Firmware | After New Firmware |
Well, I rebooted my 3801 yet again today. I was saddened to see no upgrade. 15 minutes later my SSID/TVs drop out and notice it's rebooting again. When it comes back on I discover the new firmware. To my surprise it increased my max rate by a decent amount. Anyone know what the gateway improvements where? Can't be because it hasn't been reset because I kept rebooting about every 3-7 days to look for the update. My profile rate went down by 5 Kbps. I wonder how it'll be once vectoring is deployed ! |

Re: 6.9.1.42-enh.tm Firmware - Max Rate Jump: What Improvements? Why does U-verse Realtime now show "Unknown DSL Protocol/Profile/Plan." Is it because of the 5 Kbps difference on the download portion of the profile? I looked at the gateway's stats and it showed "G.993.2_8d" instead of "G.993.2." What's the "_8d" supposed to be? Is it the 8d that's listed as the "Profile" on U-verse Realtime bitloading graph? Maybe the improvements are by more frequency use? I don't know exactly but I remember the Bitloading graph(In the 2wire's menu at Diagnostics -> DSL) used to be a lot shorter. It seems to go all the way up to "4096" but my modem ends between about 1920 and 1936. I don't know much about how to read it or anything but figured I would make note of it . Either it is new or I'm going insane and it's like that in the old firmware. Anyone with the 3801 and the old firmware want to check to see if it's graph doesn't go up to 4096? Maybe the graph goes up to 16 MHz or so now? |

My max rate didn't change at all with the new firmware.
Although, I do have one question regarding the new configuration options for this firmware. Under Settings, Broadband, Link Configuration, a new option has appeared which is titled Broadband Interface, and the choices are DSL, Ethernet, & Automatic. I'm assuming that the correct/optimal setting is DSL, but I just wanted to find out from one of the official ATT techs on this forum what it should be. Its default is Automatic, but I'm not a big fan of Automatic, if I can make a definitive selection, that always seems to work out better. |

Weird how I saw a somewhat significant change with my line stats while you didn't see any. My U-verse Realtime bitloading even looks a little slightly worse than it was before :/. Also, not sure what the best option is for that. |

Hmm, I wonder what could have caused this difference then? It was around the first picture until I rebooted and got the new firmware. Max rate went up by about 3 Mbps, Noise Margin went up by 1.5 dB, attenuation went down by 1 dB, Power level for downstream went up by 2.1 dBm and upstream went down by 1.2 dBm. Along with that, my bitloading is slightly worse. |

said by Darknessfall:Hmm, I wonder what could have caused this difference then? I wonder if the profile gets re-assessed each time the modem reboots. Then if there are enough errors later, maybe a week later, it could drop to a little slower profile. This is just a guess. |

Oh, I had 32/5 for years though. I'm not talking about the profile . |

just noticed there were a few added options under link configuration:
The IPv6 dealio has magically appeared as well:

I saw the option for "Wireless Congestion." Sad that you have to be in Auto mode though :/. I like how you get to see why your gateway is actually choosing a channel now though lol. |

I saw this post, and checked my gateway and I did not have the update, so I rebooted and it updated with the reboot..
The 8d by the way is the vdsl profile being used, it specifies, bandwidth,, power levels, and max throughput.
Looks like this update changes how the interleaving works, my minimum ping has dropped from 48ms down to 32ms. |

Looks like this update changes how the interleaving works, my minimum ping has dropped from 48ms down to 32ms. I currently don't have U-verse internet so I can't check on the latency right now. When I used to have internet we had 20ms minimum ping(25ms to most nearby servers though). |

i have the 3800HGV-B will i be getting the new firmware also? |
|

You should be. Have you tried rebooting? I think the 3800 roll out is slower than the 3801's. |

said by Mangix:is this being pushed out to 3600-HGVs? According to » www.uvrealtime.com/stats.aspx there hasn't been any reports of it by any U-verse Realtime users yet. I don't know though, could just be that it's out there but none of them use the program. |

hmm interesting. I'll try restarting mine later today to see if anything happens. I somehow doubt it though. |

There also seems to be this which lets you see signal strength of your wireless devices. |

I restarted and have no update as of 10 minutes. I guess firmware for this unit is rolling out at a later time. |

So, no one has any ideas regarding the Broadband Interface options in Link configuration? |

said by Paralel:So, no one has any ideas regarding the Broadband Interface options in Link configuration? I tried it earlier for you but forget to post. I would leave it on auto. But, if you really want a set choice, I would use "DSL" if you're on VDSL2 and "Ethernet" if you're on FTTH.That is what I got from it. Also, guess I'm going insane. Was told the bitloading went up to that amount on the old firmware too. |
