[TWC] TWC NYC - Arris DG860 Modem - Wifi Disables, any options?
I have internet through earthlink via Time Warner Cable in Brooklyn, New York. Just got a new cable modem, Arris DG860 with Wifi built in. I tried to enable the wifi, and it automatically shuts off. When I spoke to Time Warner today, they said that I have to pay extra to enable the wifi on the router. it's frustrating because i would be paying to just have the cable modem do what it's built to do and work as a wireless router, I'm not getting anything more from time warner or earthlink. One person told me it's $6 a month to have the wireless enabled, while someone else said I'd have to switch from earthlink to TWC/roadrunner to get the wifi turned on. Anyone have any experiences with this? i have my own wireless router but would rather avoid having two routers hooked up at the same time...is there anyway to bypass their wifi block or something? I can get into the modem setup and enable the wifi, but then it shuts off like 5 minutes later....
Re: [TWC] TWC NYC - Arris DG860 Modem - Wifi Disables, any optio
It gets shut off every time it gets its provisioning from the network. There's no way around it. Put the thing in bridge mode and use it as a modem. You already have a router; you don't need their "trash" that you cannot configure.
(Both are correct... it's an add-on service, and not available to Earthlink customers.)
Can you point me in the direction of how to configure the modem for bridge mode correctly? I want to try and optimize my internet performance. I was thinking about putting the Arris modem in DMZ mode, but it sounds like Bridge mode is the right way to go....
thanks for any help!
Again, any changes you make to it will be replaced by the network. CALL TWC! They're the only ones who can make any changes.

No way to bypass the "wifi block" unless you pay for it, bridge it and use your own wifi router, it will then act as a modem only and your worry of two wifi routers is eliminated.
For bridge: I think you can pin reset it, hold for 10 sec.... remove the coax, goto 192.168.0.1, pw is easily found on google, and there is a napt mode found in the WAN settings, disable that, it will reboot and connect coax....
Or call and request tier3 to put your modem in bridge.

thanks! hopefully they won't try to charge me to put the modem in bridge mode!
