Windows update does not work.

I have ran the Microsoft Security Essential full system scan for Windows Vista and all trojans and viruses have been removed. However, I still cannot get my machine to run a windows update. I came from this thread, »answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind···7130d313 and I am now at the step where it says to make a thread. Help would be much appreciated.
