[Internet] Outage 10 July 2013

Today started off at 0400 with no internet connectivity. The announcement said problems existed in portions of western West Virginia and Ohio. It did not mention the Romney/Martinsburg/Charlestown area. They apparently restored western West Virginia and Ohio but our service did not return. Then they put up an announcement stating those of us in the Potomac Highlands and Eastern Panhandle may not be able to connect to the internet. This announcement was posted circa 0830. Second connect restored around 2:45PM and the primary line at 3:45PM. No reason for outage (RFO) given.

Thanks, Ben J. Was this in West Virginia or elsewhere in the affected area?

Where it crosses the river around Williamsport heading into Maryland. That particular bundle had a number of circuits that carry traffic out of our markets to our Core POP in Ashburn riding over it.

That might explain why my download has sucked for the past few days....

So they ripped out fiber optic thinking it was copper? Wow, what a bunch of [Censored]. I say string them up, you don't mess with a persons bandwidth!!!

Re: [Internet] Outage 10 July 2013
I think perhaps its not fixed all the way. My ping times are horrible. Normally they are 18-20ms to google.com.

Right now they are:

Pinging google.com [74.125.228.110] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 74.125.228.110: bytes=32 time=125ms TTL=56
Reply from 74.125.228.110: bytes=32 time=120ms TTL=56
Reply from 74.125.228.110: bytes=32 time=112ms TTL=56
Reply from 74.125.228.110: bytes=32 time=114ms TTL=56

It is 1130am....

If I call to inquire about it, what usually happens is they drop my speed from 3Mb to 1.5Mb, so I won't be calling them to inquire. Sad, but it is what it is I guess.

Here are my results:

Pinging 74.125.228.110 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 74.125.228.110: bytes=32 time=26ms TTL=56
Reply from 74.125.228.110: bytes=32 time=26ms TTL=56

Reply from 74.125.228.110: bytes=32 time=27ms TTL=56

There obviously is some difference.
