Can't believe this. I thought Russia had evolved somewhat, but apparently it's still a shithole of uncivilized rats.
I wonder if travel insurances cover mugging???
I will never let anyone approach me like this if I'm on a trip. Imagine having your 70-200 stolen like this. |

In looking at the footage it looks like he lost more than the lens since he turned his attention away from trying to retrieve the lens to whatever it was behind him. This certainly wasn't the Russians first rodeo. -- Good judgement comes with experience...Experience comes after bad judgements |

Guy was surrounded on all sides, clearly they were organized and outnumbered him by a great deal. I don't know how you can avoid being approached like that when they decided to do it unless you plan on just bolting everytime 3+ people get within 5' of you...
Watching that video is infuriating... getting mugged or ripped off by some desperate person is bad enough, but when they're numerous and organized like that? They're running a ring and there is no g.d. reason local authorities should not be stopping them within a couple of 'hits' like that. |

In a situation like this you should probably carry your stuff around in a bag that doesn't look like it has anything of value in it and keep your camera hidden.
Of course you usually don't know you're in a "situation" until it's to late. |
