| Vonage>DONE! Free, free, free at last. No more VOIP, no more home phone, it is now cell phone heaven. About a year ago I placed my Vonage service as DO NOT DISTURB on incoming calls, just to see how much I would miss the damn phone ringing off the hook with solicitors and political BS voicemails. Well, needless to say, I am done with HOME anything! Incoming or outgoing, and not looking back or regretting it for one second. BYE BYE VONAGE and all the rest of the BS services. |

 | Do you get a bill from your cell phone service? Just wondering... |

FWIW, I'd drop Vonage in a minute also, if I got decent enough reception from my cell carrier, but I don't. Haven't with any of the wireless carriers I've used over the years.
As far as my phone ringing off the hook, I don't have that problem and as far as dropped calls, I've NEVER had one yet! Definitely worth the $18 a month it costs me, that's taxes and stuff included.

Blaming a phone company for telemarketing calls is like blaming a radio station for playing a song you don't like. Fact is, it's your own fault for getting the telemarketing calls for 3 reasons:
1. Vonage is one of the few services that includes "Anonymous Call Block" - blocks all anonymous incoming calls.
2. If you answer calls from toll free numbers or numbers you don't recognize, it's your problem. When I see numbers I don't know, voicemail gets them and invariably, 95% don't leave messages.
3. Telemarketing begins with how much information you give out about yourself. Do you have credit cards? Have you specifically asked your credit card companies to remove you from lists that go to their third party partners? Read your cc agreement, by default you agree to receive marketing calls from the cc company and all of their partners. Same goes for ANY company you do business with including utilities. Call them and follow-up with a letter stating they do not have permission to release your contact information for anything other than official business. I started doing that 15years ago and within 18mo, I was getting ZERO telemarketing calls. I get the occassional marketing robocall but even then, I never answer unknown phone numbers.
And you do know what you are missing by leaving Vonage? Besides very good rates (you have to admit this or you would never have subscribed in the first place), they have a smartphone app so that you can piggyback all toll calls onto your Vonage line through that app. It means you can purchase a basic cell phone call package with no long distance - you don't need it with the Vonage app.
Oh, well. Your loss.

I don't think he was complaining about Vonage, seems centered around the solicitors and political BS voicemails.
I'd have to agree, the stinking telemarketers (the scam artists) are growing in numbers with no way to stop their calls. If you don't answer they'll just keep dialing you day-after-day. Ringing, Ringing, Ringing |

Not listing the name as it might be construed as 'sales' so send me a PM if you want to know the device name (no, I'm not a salesperson). Other than that, I flat out refuse to allow my phone number to be used as an account number (except for my Vonage service). |

I am thinking about dropping vonage and going with ooma because ooma offer more features then what crappy a#3 vonage does. |

I agree. It would be nice if Vonage had selective call blocking. Maybe they would have retained mbi777 (and many others as customers) if they had selective call blocking. I am very disappointed that they still don't offer this feature.

I hooked my Vonage line to a Panasonic 3 extension cordless phone system. It has a "Call-Block" facility -- you input a list of phone numbers which are automatically blocked. The blocked caller is answered silently, then a disconnect tone is sent, and the call is hung up. That, plus activating Vonage's Anonymous call block has totally stopped all telemarketing calls here.
I also have all folks I talk to in the Panasonic phone book, so if an unknown call comes in it goes to the answering system. Don't leave a message? A new telemarketer? I add the number to the call block list. Oh, and the Panasonic system has a bluetooth system where you can transfer your contacts from a smartphone directly into the system. This is great for people like me who hate phones. When I am home, I forward my cell to my Vonage number too, which makes all those facilities available to inbound cell callers as well.
It's a Panasonic 6.0 Plus if anyone is interested in researching similar phone systems. I bought it on Amazon for about $100.00. There are many such systems out there, the one I have is this one: Panasonic KX-TG7643M dect 6.0 Link-to-Cell Bluetooth Cordless Phone

| The operators manual for the KX-TG7643M indicates that this unit still rings once or twice before disconnecting, does your unit? I don't even want a single ring.
Didn't see where you can block an entire area code, the telemarketers are getting wise to individual blocked numbers, with the ability to block only 30 I'm wondering how well that unit would work for me. |

No, it can't block entire area codes. I have had the unit for about a year and a half and have inputed only 10 numbers. This on a telephone number I have had for over 30 years and have given out to many. I am convinced that most of the spam calls are being blocked by Vonage's anonymous call block facility.
There are more sophisticated units out there for a bit more money, but the Panasonic I bought along with anonymous call-block from Vonage does the trick for me.
EDIT: P.S. I am also registered on the do not call list, which probably accounts for some of the lower spam traffic I see. |

There is equipment out there which you can install between your phone and phone-line to do just that. For example: DIGITONE Call Blocker 10. I would consider adding this on if I ever reached the 30 number block limit on my Panasonic.
What area codes would you block? 800?
