Re: [SK] shaw rate increase effective Sept 1st Why? I've been looking at all the options, nothing compares to the price nor service I am getting with Shaw.
Every couple months I look around, but Shaw is the only one with the speeds and service that I can use. -- Yes, I am not employed and looking for IT work. Have passport, will travel. |

They increased my rate by from $150.80 to $151.95 (a $1.15 increase). I can live with that. I've never had any inclination to change from Shaw. Where I live service is excellent, own my equipment, never (or can't remember) having any outage. Shaw's equipment Warranty is excellent. They've replaced all units giving problems. Why should I go to someone else for a few bucks less and uncertain service? -- The best way to succeed in life is to act on the advice you give to others.

People's annoyance with it is that Shaw performs the rate increases annually, while maintaining the same service (same speed, caps, channels, etc). |

Sorry incorrect, 50/10 is available to many non GPON or ETTS customers on Telus. Either by single pair or bonded copper. |

kevinds join:2003-05-01 Calgary, AB kudos:1 | I think @Nas1 was saying that the fastest speed is only 50/10 offered on GPON or ETTS?
Not that 50/10 was only available on GPON/ETTS -- Yes, I am not employed and looking for IT work. Have passport, will travel. |

I apologize I should have been more clear. Kevinds is right, I was stating that 50/10 was the highest available for all telus customers at the moment ( copper or fiber) rumors through the grapevine indicate that higher tiers are coming for fiber customers though. Only a matter of time for customers on copper too, VDSL is by no means a dead technology yet. |

Why should I go to someone else for a few bucks less and uncertain service? And if that's the case then lucky you. My bill went up $7/month in April and $10/month this month. In other words in the last 6 months my bill has gone up by more then 10%.
Maybe they can use that extra money to hire some people that can think rather then reading a script. I have a continuous issue where I lose HD and Internet at random intervals (the 2 always go down and come back at the same time), when I call into support they take me through an hour long trouble shooting ignoring the fact that my router/modem has nothing to do with my TV (also ignoring the fact that I continuously tell them that I have tried everything on their script), you see according to them it's impossible for TV and Internet to be affected by a single issue, so I must either be stupid or a liar.
On the other hand maybe they can use the extra money to hire some more technicians since when the support person finally realized that I may actually know what I'm talking about he decided I need a tech. Well the problem is random and only lasts for a couple days at a time, however it takes 2-3 weeks for a tech to come out. So now they come out, don't find a problem and leave, just like last time, and the time before that.
More likely the extra money will go into the pockets of upper management.
Anyways sorry for the vent but I'm a little ticked.
Back on topic, at this point the issue I'm having doesn't happen often enough to make me switch, and looking at TELUS to get the same Channels and the 50mbps line (I am on BB 100 currently) I would still be paying an additional $10/month. So I'm sticking with Shaw......For Now. |

Joy, $200/month now for unlimited 100
Beyond the fact that this number is ridiculous for what you get, it's even more ridiculous that Shaw *still* hasn't provided a tier between 100+ and unlimited, which is what I really need, because paying $200/month for 800-900GB transferred is a rip off at best. Hell even the BB250/1TB tier would be perfect, even if I didn't get the damn 250Mbps speeds, but nope they can't do that because they're enjoying ripping people off too much.
*sigh* I really wish Teksavvy would quit pushing back the launching of the 50/10 DSL tier. |

Shaw's bb50 is getting pretty expensive, and there's no real benefit to bundling internet/tv anymore. I'd gladly give teksavvy a try if they offered 50mbps in Victoria. It could be DSL or Cable, I'd be ok with either one. |
|
 | I hope they get dsl 50 tier. Shaw no longer compete regards to prices. |

 | The Incumbents do not compete PERIOD!!! |

Teksavvy will get all Shaw's plans before DSL 50, but they are working on it |
|
 | I would go dsl all the way . I wouldn't give a dime to Shaw doesn't matter they have a last mile. You still pay Shaw regardless if tek getting cable 50 |
|
kevinds join:2003-05-01 Calgary, AB kudos:1 | I'm waiting for DSL too, 10 upload, and static IPs, Teksavvy doesn't have plans for static IPs on cable.
Shaw has until Teksavvy releases their DSL plans, to upgrade me to 100/10, to keep me as a customer lol -- Yes, I am not employed and looking for IT work. Have passport, will travel. |

I'm hoping Teksavvy expands their footprint to Victoria. I'd love to get unlimited internet.
50mbps and unlimited internet would be pretty sweet. I don't really need constant speed upgrade past that, just to get more bandwidth (And hence start to get charged pretty ridiculous internet prices). |

I'm going to get Optik 50 and dump Shaw due to problems with my service. Wish I could get TekSavvy but it might conflict with OptikTV. |

That's nuts... When I read your comment I thought you must be mistaken, but no, it's right there on their website.
It's so discouraging to look at the ambitious, cutting edge (for Canada) plans they announced 2+ years ago, and compare it to the sad sack American style offerings now. It bugs me because at the time it seemed like such a step in the right direction... None of their competition was offering anything like that, they were actually going to try and set the standard... a move you don't see much when there's basically no competition.
Now it seems they've had a change of heart, and are going to go back to attempting to force people to change their habits to adapt to their limited offerings, or pay an exorbitant amount. It's just a shame.
Moving to Teksavvy and dropping TV entirely has been way less of an adjustment than I thought it would be. |

Should have said 'until Teksavvy releases their new DSL plans'...
Have to hack the modem, to turn it into a modem.
Telus can't/won't give me proper static IPs (need two consecutive IPv4 address on the one network interface for DirectAccess as an example) DHCP IPs can't do this Telus DHCP static IPs (on their business accounts can't do this). Teksavvy will give me complete/proper subnets, which is also something Shaw won't do...
Telus charges a small fortune for service, last time I looked it was $96/month/PC for 15/1 shared between all PCs and 1 (or 5) IPs - dedicated fiber is way cheaper -- Yes, I am not employed and looking for IT work. Have passport, will travel. |

move tek dsl and don't support Shaw any longer. try to be Shaw free. |

 | said by :move tek dsl and don't support Shaw any longer. try to be Shaw free.
I'd prefer that. If Tek could do 50 meg or even 25 in my area I would (Telus has no VDSL ports around here for some reason)
In the meantime I have 15/1 DSL from a different reseller (paid for by work) and Tek cable. I know the bulk of the money I pay to Tek goes to Shaw, but it's still a lot less than they were getting from me before they chased me away... So whatever. |
