Re: Something changed, and if it isn't a bug, I don't/do like it

said by More Fiber:

Quote Highlighted now seems to be broken on IE8 (was working).

I highlight the text and click Quote Highlighted. Quoted text appears in the text box.
Then the screen refreshes and the quoted text is gone.

Especially in IE8, the feature is unlikely to be perfect out of the box.

I'll look at glitches that are reproducible when someone can describe one exactly.

It's very consistent for me. It's exactly as nwrickert See Profile also observed.
1) Highlight and hit Quote Highlight.
2) Quoted text briefly appears at the bottom.
3) Page immediately refreshes and quoted text is gone. Note that the page that is displayed no longer has the previous posts. It appears like the page after pressing Spell Check or Preview.

You must really like to annoy me, Now the tool bar yellow star thing is blinking! Make it stop please!!!!

You need to either view all of the threads (in) which you are following/posting, or click the star and go in and tell the system to stop following those threads.

Plus, it doesn't blink continuously. Only 3 times per page load.

To add to my previous post about Quote Highlighted being broken. Quote without highlighting is also broken in IE8.

This seems to occur only on the full reply page, not when using quick reply.

That's better. Not going to the other page now.
Thanks.

Still having trouble with not getting the highlighted text right (quoting more than is highlighted), but I can live with that.

if it can't pick the quoted part, or the browser trips up internally, it falls back to quoting the post you're trying to highlight (all of it).

Are you saying in IE8 it never can grab fragments? or it often falls back to complete post, but sometimes works.

Not quite. Somestimes it works, sometimes it grabs from the start of the highlight to the end of text, not the end of the highlight. This seems to happen most often when trying to grab the middle of a sentence rather than the whole sentence. It's inconsistent though.

I was having the highlight quote text problem last night. Just checked, seems ok now. Firefox 23.01.

Sorry about the size, have to use a 32
Like the tooltip that pops up when you hover over a folder, but unless Firefox 23.0.1 and/or Xubuntu is messing with me, isn't it a tad large for just one sentence?

What does your page's HTML source look like? There should just be a title attribute on the folder img tag; you should just see a "normal" (for you) tooltip.

Well, was looking to find that, but noticed that after restarting the browser, it's normal now. Oh Well!

hitting recommend if there is already a recommend just puts out a done text. hitting it again takes away your recommendation without letting you know.

also, ive seen some weird things happen with it. It'll say recommend 9 under actions when there are only 2 recommendations.

I don't know about you, guys, but I've noticed that in the while the whole page may suddenly jump up (or down) a bit. Could be just a several pixels of so, but nevertheless it's noticeable... Watching it with Iron v28.

Yes, for the last few days.

Load a new page such a this one, and about a moment or three later, most or all of it moves upward.

I'm watching the top border & title for exactly what changes, but am not sure yet.

Using Vertical Site Nav, and Left side Minibar, on IE8 on XP Home / SP3

EDIT : NOW that I'm watching for it, it won't happen anymore.

Maybe until I start to pay attention to something else, such as reading a post.

I think it still has a bug, as Im seeing threads on my "followed" page that I have never visited, let alone posted in.

Justin and folks

Is anyone else seeing the IM icon on the toolbar flashing now? It seems to flash at random, even when there are no new IM's to view.

Yes, I noticed it beginning this morning. It starts after you've been on a page for some amount of time.

I've noticed it coming and going, both when viewing a page for a few minutes, but also right as the page loads.

The one on page load is just three blinks for me. Then, after about 2 minutes, both the post and IM icons start blinking.

So it may not be only an IE8 bug after all ?

The IM Minibar icon flashed fine on my FF14, but not on FF10, IE8, nor IE6.

The 'Posts' Minibar icon flashed 3x after a page load, on ALL 4 browsers.

Same technology to make it flash, so what would be unique, codewise, to one purpose but not to the other ?

The IM icon is constantly blinking for me, only stopping when its clicked on. I had to take the post icon off the tool bar because it was driving me nuts. (well, more nuts, if that is possible)

Last night, for ME, on FF14 only, the Posts icon would do 3 flashes on page load.

Then, 2 or 3 seconds after the Posts icon stopped, the IM icon would start to continuously flash.

I believe all of that to be the currently normal and anticipated operation, and if it would also do so on IE8, I would be a happy camper.

Also, quote highlighted text is no longer working. It will pick up the name and quote tags, but not the text part. Firefox 23.1.
