»www.fileformat.info/info/unicode···list.htm is the dingbat block although some don't show in my browser.
edit: since the dingbat block is (and I'm extremely reluctant to say this) sort of useful I'll whitelist that range the next code push your musical notes will appear.
If I sound cautious it is because even apart from rendering bugs crashing browsers - which probably won't happen again - I'm betting there are other nasties lurking in just opening the door to the full gamut of utf8 html entities, especially when used in an ISO-8859 database and site. XSS exploits spring to mind: »www.owasp.org/index.php/XSS_Filt···at_Sheet |

So when did news surface of this 'Arabic character' browser crashing thing ? (or whatever you first called it)
And was it actually affecting DSLR, or were you just being careful when you disabled the code block ? |

DavesnothereNo-BHELL-ity DOES have its AdvantagesPremium join:2009-06-15 START Today! kudos:6 | I checked the linked page »www.fileformat.info/info/unicode···list.htm just now, and in FireFox 14, I can see them all the way down to 'EAST SYRIAC CROSS', which is just after the musical notes, about half way down the page.
BTW, THEY have different code numbers than you do.
Is this something where you have to manually map the desired characters to a table at your end ? |
|
justin..needs sleepAustralian join:1999-05-28 New York, NY kudos:15 | On chrome there are gaps. Anyway the code numbers are right, ignore the U+ code drill in for example »www.fileformat.info/info/unicode···ndex.htm ♫ or ♫ shows as a double note on my browser.
If it doesn't on firefox then I think nobody should be using them (which was sort of my original point) but it probably does. |

Perhaps that is the more important thing to raise in Feedback?

Re: Coded Graphics Seem Broken Yes, your next code push indeed made them appear.
Actually, that is a 'tied' pair of 8th notes.
The details page on that site also has several other terms which describe them.
BTW, my bad on the code numbers - I had missed that they are expressed in Hex in their table, but both ways on their details pages.
I am seeing the characters now while still testing FireFox today, but they looked the same in IE8 in the recent past. |

Site seems to have hit the nitro a couple weeks ago. Everything is crazy fast. Whatever happened, I noticed, and like it. |

1 recommendation | thanks that made my day, as a hobby I've been gradually identifying and fixing slower URLs. Of course it could just be someone in a NOC somewhere improved an interconnect, but I'm trying to have all pages construct in less than 200ms (that's with no caching, if I can cache a page, it could be 10ms).
Also about two weeks ago I changed the TCP stack to be more aggressive than the default. This means small requests like 20k or less can arrive all in a bunch of packets, even before you ack the first packet. |

I don't want them all jumbled under 1 system message, how it is now I click the system message and I have like 3 & 4 sub messages telling me I have a reply to my message. |
|
justin..needs sleepAustralian join:1999-05-28 New York, NY kudos:15 | the messages accumulate to the unread one if you are offline they are ordered according to time. you still get the same info just in one or two clicks not multiple. |

 IE10 - DEFAULT | IE10 - COMPATIBILITY VIEW |
Upon my first visit of the day to the forums I had to enable "Compatibility View" for the first time in years! Once enabled it fixed the out of place text/fields. Did something change? -- "Graffiti Wall" Dustyn's Wall »[Serious] RIP

justin..needs sleepAustralian join:1999-05-28 New York, NY kudos:15 | Oh Ok then sigh, IE10 still doesn't do things right (hidden until narrow screen triangles). I really had hopes it would - but it doesn't. So I'll disable that again. |
|
DustynPremium join:2003-02-26 Ontario, CAN kudos:10 | What is it that's not playing right with IE10? Is it just IE10 or are other IE versions affected also? Maybe I missed something earlier in the thread... |
|
justin..needs sleepAustralian join:1999-05-28 New York, NY kudos:15 | just turn off compatibility mode it'll look right now.
It is some CSS that works ok for WebKit but IE10 can't do it right. |
|
DustynPremium join:2003-02-26 Ontario, CAN kudos:10 | Thanks. I'll give it a bit as I'm not seeing the change appear yet on my end with it turned off. |
|
justin..needs sleepAustralian join:1999-05-28 New York, NY kudos:15 | then it isn't what I thought, and I don't know what changed to make IE10 spit the dummy. (the style sheet has not changed since last week). |
|
DustynPremium join:2003-02-26 Ontario, CAN kudos:10 | Thanks anyways. I'll just enable compatibility mode then as it fixes whatever is causing the broken lines and fields in the forums. |

Actually you can help, open F12 developer tools then open console, then make it big enough then hit refresh on the page without compatibility mode on, and if you can screen shot whats in the console?
then I can compare that it to whats in the console in virtualbox and see whether you're getting an additional error line that would explain the appearance of the option to switch to compatibility view. |

Take a look at this and see if it helps:
