updates paused Used to be, back in the good ol' days, I could have a tab opened to a topic, have another tab on another site opened to the screen, and the topic tab would change to something about "New reply", when a reply was made. I don't so much recall a timeout for this feature (see "ol'").
Now, I am seeing "updates paused" all over the place, after a relatively short (5 minutes, 10 minutes...?) timeout, even when the forum tab is opened to the screen and I walk away or do something else.
Whither good 'ol tab/update coolness?
I do see the forum post list getting updated automatically with yellow envelopes, which I didn't notice before (see "ol'").
Thanks! |

Re: Something changed, and if it isn't a bug, I don't/do like it I'm not on that computer with IE10 at the moment, I'm using another machine with IE8. I'll check out how it looks in IE10 shortly. However, in that screengrab you posted the thread title "Speed shown in Kbps vs Mbps" has no borders around it. All the other topics do.
As I said I still need to check out IE10 on my other machine so I may be too late and this may have been fixed already. -- "Graffiti Wall" Dustyn's Wall »[Serious] RIP

Re: updates paused updating is paused when a tab is hidden, and resumed when it is revealed. Alternatively updating is suspended if a tab is visible but idle for a much longer time.
if you use /postlist to track replies then it starts to flash if you have unread replies anywhere, (if you don't hide the tab).
I could re-enable updating for hidden tabs but it has its downsides: one hidden tab can keep getting updates to a topic and when you check what has been unread from another tab you find nothing is unread, because the hidden tab is eating all the updates.
a browser extension would solve these issues in the simplest way. |

Re: Something changed, and if it isn't a bug, I don't/do like it Okay, so now it looks great with compatibility view turned off. Is there any other info you might still like to look at? said by justin:Actually you can help, open F12 developer tools then open console, then make it big enough then hit refresh on the page without compatibility mode on, and if you can screen shot whats in the console?
then I can compare that it to whats in the console in virtualbox and see whether you're getting an additional error line that would explain the appearance of the option to switch to compatibility view.
I assume the above is no longer required...? -- "Graffiti Wall" Dustyn's Wall »[Serious] RIP

Re: updates paused said by berserken:Used to be, back in the good ol' days, I could have a tab opened to a topic, have another tab on another site opened to the screen, I pushed a change to update the page title if the topic changes, but not fetch the updates until the tab is made visible.
Also I pushed the time a page can sit around connected to the notification system to 1hr.
Hopefully these two changes will help. |

| said by tmpchaos:, and I was able to reproduce it. Thanks for confirming. I was wondering whether it was something funky about how mouse selection works in linux/KDE. So reproducing it on a different system helps. Perhaps it is something to do with there already being a quote in the message being quoted.

I don't have a screenshot of the occurrance, but......
I started a new thread, got a "recommend" on it, edited the OP to fix a grammar error, and the "recommend" disappeared when I submitted the edit.
It was this post: »Canada is the "sanest country in the world" -- All of us get lost in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter, dreamers turn to look at the cars - Peart / Lifeson / Lee Join Team Helix |

I think it may actually be because the quote included the user you were quick-quoting. |

said by nwrickert:Something seems to have broken with "Quote Highlighted". The reason is sort of interesting. The part you highlighted is found in the original post as a match starting and ending with the words you highlighted. But in this case the match is also satisfied by a larger one as "The east anglia.." is repeated earlier on in the post. |

So 'Quote Highlighted' uses a 'midstring' search operation ? |

When creating new posts, there now seems to be a shorter limit on the length of the title.
While this is a good idea, sometimes it's hard to create a pithy title. A few more characters would be useful....
Thank you. |
|
justin..needs sleepAustralian join:1999-05-28 New York, NY kudos:15 | yes it is shortened by the group length that goes in [brackets] this isn't ideal but I need to shut the site for several hours to install something to allow schema changes to the posts table |
