OK, I was able to smooth out the color banding while still compressing the image by adding dither (noise) to the image layers. Adding dither blends the transition of the various shades making the banding invisible to the human eye. Cool stuff!

Hmmm... don't know what I did to cause that 'growth ring of a tree' effect?
Anyone know what causes that?
I just found some info. It's called color banding. Reading up on it now.
AHA! I compressed the image too much. I found the original swirl background at a much higher quality 3D image (2560 x 1600) on another website and used it instead of JKK's image. Then I compressed the image before animating.
Oh, here's the higher resolution 3D image in case someone else wants to use it.

Darn. I love what you've been doing. Thanks! Having new toys to play with does make a difference.
The programs are so inexpensive. The most expensive one I've seen is the Adobe Photoshop one, and that one is only $10. I haven't gotten that yet.

Got to throw in some text at the moment for the Attachment button to show... God, how I love technology! I did this image this morning on my Nook HD while in bed and uploaded it to Dropbox. I'm in the living room now (in the evening), fired up the Nook HD+ that I keep there and attached the image from Dropbox to this thread. |
