| Gotta say that's what I originally thought during the end of May, when my 3G speeds went through the roof. I was getting even better speeds than you, the same on the download side and twice that speed on the upload side; it was like a mini-WiMax.
All of which lasted a grand total of 10 days. As soon as the WiMax was fixed (I was without WiMax from March 13th to June 4th), the 3G went back to its usual snail's pace.
I have absolutely no idea what was going on; yeah, sure, it might have had something to do with the Network Vision upgrade, but, whatever it was, it stopped having any effect when the WiMax was fixed, and I haven't seen those speeds since.
I hope your current speeds hold, of course, but I wouldn't hold my breath; I suspect it's probably just a temporary side-effect of the strange mysterious rites they are holding as they supposedly upgrade the network. |

I was always wondering even when I was with AT&T back on iPhone 4 in 2010 even their 3G was much faster then this.
How come you guys seem to be so happy about 2 mbps on 3G? or is simply Sprint's 3G older technology? I think AT's could pull up about 7.2 mbps? something in that range. |

| Because Sprint is available in much bigger data buckets per month than any other wireless Internet provider. Basically anyone who downloads more than 20 gigs a month, and needs a wireless provider, doesn't have a choice: It's Sprint or nothing.
To be clear, I'm talking about what's available from Sprint resellers, e.g. Millenicom, Wireless 'n' WiFi (WnW) and so on.
Speaking of which, we have a forum for Millenicom; how come we don't have a forum for WnW? |

AT&T has terrible nationwide coverage compared to Sprint, so their network has less load. AT&T is all about speed. Speed won't matter when you don't even have service . AT&T isn't even in my town. |

Well, depends on whether you're running these tests on 3G, WiMax or LTE. If you're running them on 3G, then those results are actually comfortably above minimum spec (600 dl/350 ul). If you're running them on WiMax, then that's terrible download, good upload, when looking at minimum spec (3mbps dl/.5 mbps ul). And if you're running those on LTE, then those are absurdly crippled compared to minimum spec (6mbps dl/2mbps ul).
By the way, for what it's worth, here are my current WiMax figures:

As you can see, they're not spectacular, but they're at least above minimum spec.
And here's my current LTE:

As you can see, my LTE is woefully below minimum download spec, comfortably above minimum upload spec.
I'm in Manhattan, zip 10022. |

1 edit | Same here:

So, with the exception of those few weeks in May to which I referred above, when my 3G was screaming (and the WiMax was practically unusable), my 3G basically has been worse than ever this year, even though my neighborhood has supposedly been in the midst of an upgrade for the better part of this year. (The only other sign of the upgrade has been LTE connectivity since June, which is still accompanied by horrendous download speeds. About the only network which is working properly right now is WiMax, and even the WiMax is remarkably unpredictable.)
Upgrades are hell, and mine started a whopping six months ago; ouch! |
