Re: distributel to start

This isn't something we can do on the customer behalf at this time, there is a CISC process to deal with this but it's not due to be implemented until 2014. We've even tried conference calls with the customer and their tech support, etc. I'm glad you were able to get it pushed through, and we'll definitely continue to advise customers that we need the modem released as opposed to just cancelled, and perhaps over time more people at DT will become aware of what needs to be done. But alas, there isn't anything we can do to ensure that happens on a regular basis.

Understood.

What I meant was more along the lines of making potential transferees aware that this is actually a two-step process, as opposed to one.

Gza14,

I cancelled online and called in just to confirm. CSR provided me a ticket # they use in relation to the cancellation request.

Did Distributel provide you a ticket #?

PTL421, no, they didn't.

I would definitely confirm if that ticket corresponds to a modem release submission over to Rogers, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks Gza14. I'll call in again on Monday.

hopefully it gets switched today
i assume that as long as distributel is working there is no point switching the modem since the transfer likely hasn't taken place?

If you have two modems (one for each service), then it is quite possible (or likely) that service may overlap on both for a day or so. Mine did when I switched (from Teksavvy).

So.. if your line stats are good enough, insert a 1:2 splitter temporarily and hook up both modems.

Yum. So how many MB/S does it show when you download something from Steam ? I am just curious.

Adding to instead of starting a new post, but I had problems handling a transfer from Distributel because they did not submit the disconnection notice. When I pressed them for it later, instead of submitting the disconnection for the original date, they just had it disconnected immediately. I informed Start and they did an excellent job of dealing with it and getting me active, but if others are not careful it is possible that you could end up with no Internet for a time when coming from Distributel.

I'm having issues switching from Distributel (3web) as well. Was supposed to be disconnected Aug 31. Emailed Distributel who assured me I was set to be disconnected on that day. But as of today, I'm still getting service from them. Have been in contact with Start who says Rogers still hasn't received the disconnect notice. Called Distributel tech support who said I had to call back tomorrow to Customer Service (closed today).

my cancel time was very similar to yours (end of the month) and the actual transfer ended up around the 12th; enjoy a couple weeks of free internet on distributel/3web consider it a thank you for being with them as a customer

I'm switching as well and have been told that Distributel is sending disconnect notices to Rogers with Sept 5 as the disconnect date. So, the Distributel connection should disconnect sometime tomorrow.

That is precisely the same situation that I am in. I actually managed to get a call thru to Distributel's support line yesterday, and received the same story.

Don't know if the cutoff is Sept 5 00:00 or Sept 5 23:59, but the cutoff can't come around soon enough for me.

odd, i got a date of September 7 for my disconnect

During a previous call to Distributel, the 7th is the date for the physical disconnection.
But, I just got a call from Start telling me that today the service will be transferred from Distributel to Start.

Had a message on my answering machine from Start just after noon (and an email, too) that today is the Distributel disconnect date. The email mentioned that I might have to wait until 5pm for all to go through.

6:15 pm, 15 minutes ago, I was still live with Distributel on my old Motorola modem. Pulled the coax out of there and plugged into the new Thompson modem from Start. Bingo. Live with Start.

Stuck my wireless router in the Start modem, rebooted the router, and everything is now live with Start.

No effort, just had to wait for the disconnect from Distributel to chunk through.

Looks great!

My experience transferring service from Distributel was similar to the OP's. However, I'm on my 4th day without internet service so it's been a terrible experience and I can't help but think Distributel wants to punish their ex-customers!

So my story thus is as follows:

My transfer was scheduled for Sept 1st and they, as usual apparently, didn't push the disconnection through until well past that date. I was using their modem/service until last Thurs, Sept 5, when service was cut off (modem released) at around midnight. So I've been without service since then. I've been in touch with Start support and I know there isn't much they can do until they hear from Rogers. I'm just hoping I'm connected before I use up all my data on my cell plan!
