Re: distributel to start

My switch from 3web/Distributel happened on Saturday night and the transition was buttery smooth. Signed up for the 25/10 unlimited and everything so far is good.

To Tramps, do you mind if I asked, when did you cancel distibutel (How many days of notice did you give) and did you call to cancel or just cancel via 3web login? Do you use your own modem from both providers?

Should I cancel distributel first then sign up with Start or the other way around or doesn't matter? Thanks.

-cancelled about 2-2.5 weeks in advance
-cancelled via 3web login, told me I didn't need to return the equipment
-renting a new modem from Start

As for cancelling first or not, I'm not sure what to tell ya.

Just saw your post Gza14 & read your post. Clearly I should've followed your steps when cancelling my service with Distributel but trusted the process instead (to my detriment).

I'm up running now and Start has been fantastic in communicating with me. In the end I had Start initiate a "new install" which took 5 business days to have an appt set up w/ a Rogers technician to make sure I had a clean signal. All in all my internet was down for a total of 10 days.

Laurie from Start informed the cancellation was never pushed through by Distributel at all, so I'm glad I went with a new install otherwise I would've been even more delayed. Start kindly waived the $50 charge in light of my situation so kudos to them!

I switched from Distributel to another provider and aside from a profile speed issue, it went quite well.

I wonder if they realize they made a mistake in their pricing and are now seeing an outflow of customers to other providers.

I decided to make the switch, unfortunately I was about a day or two too late, so I had to wait just over a month for the switch to take place. About 5 days before the expected switch, a rep from Start phoned to inform me everything is set up between all three providers (Start/Cogeco/Distributel) to be transferred on Sept. 30, and sure enough... online! Zero minutes downtime, and speeds are as advertised

Thanks again!
