Re: Random breakup All Channels in Skokie, Illinois Things are in process.... My schedule is slowing it down somewhat, but unless I win the Lotto, I will always have 'that' to contend with (Work, that is) ! -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

Today is the day for the exam by line techs... I've had 4 phone calls asking to confirm the appointment, and just had a voice call saying they 'see' me on line and everything looks good from their end..... Do I still want the service call?
This voice call occurred 20 min after they were supposed to be here...
YES... It's still happening....
Oh my.... I can't wait! -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

OK... Folks have just left.... Here's an update.... And I believe I have my information correct.
When fellow arrived, we sat in front of TV, I explained it was an intermittent, and showed him the single line of the Comcast wiring in the house, and explained what was done, when, and the age of the cabling, piece by piece. And, as we watched the TV, we saw the issue a couple times...
He said the description of the issue as described, and what he just saw, he had an idea of what it might be.... He looked at Pre/Post BER, and Post was OK but Pre was 'all over the place'..... Then.... it cleaned up..... Then.... it varied again, then not.. ETC, ETC. Outside house, and at Pole same. Intermittent pre BER (whatever that may be)..
He then called the Comcast person who requested to be kept abreast of this service call.. and called his contacts for a line tech.
In the meantime, at he 'looked' at the noise level of the house cabling. There was some noise in the system here, and he made the decision to replace cables and splitters. He took a noise reading after the cable swap outs, and it was far better noise-wise. One feed (added during construction of room addition in 1982) is RG59 and in-accessible. But thankfully the noise measurement with and without this cable attached was not any different, which is good because the crawl space is in-accessable (both ends had new connectors).
So at this point, we thought a line tech would not be available today, fellow was adding a waterproof box on outside, and the phone rang, and it was a Line Tech saying he's in the alley and think he found the problem....
I took the (Thankfully wireless) phone out to fellow finishing up the box, and we then went to alley.... to find the tech...
Line Tech found a 'stuck' ADU... (Temp controlled AGC?)
I believe a part is needed for an amp down the block.
Ongoing...
I'd like to say the guys today very knowledgeable... -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |
