Forward using DNS host name?

Is it possible to configure the router to forward to a local IP given a host name in the request, INSTEAD of by port? Thanks.

Not sure about consumer brands but with pfSense you can forward to an alias name. So, if you do use a DNS name, how long do you expect the name to stay valid (DNS servers assign a Time To live - TTL - value to the name / address association) ? Do, you expect the router to perform a DNS lookup for every incoming packet, or similar to DNS lookup, cache the address for the duration of the TTL value?

I think you are talking about host headers for websites. If so, the FiOS router can not do that, that I know of. You would need some other device to do that.
