Re: faster Uverse speeds (Project VIP) coming soon?

said by Paralel:

What a joke of a business plan.

Yep:

Businesses have bitched so much about their max upload rate that they now toss in a basic webhosting account as a freebie. I guess they're trying to appease people who would like to host a webserver on their Charter business account.

If AT&T had half a brain they would offer some business tiers like 10/10, 25/15, etc. I'd love to be able to speed up my off-site backups. I couldn't care less about them increasing download speeds.

They DO offer those plans... on their highly lucrative Metro-E and similar fiber products (which is most likely the FTTP referred to a few posts back). They will never offer those kinds of upload speeds on their consumer grade products.

Their Metro-E offerings are a bit too pricy for most small businesses. That's why I said 10/10 and 25/15. Those speeds are easily doable via U-verse yet it wouldn't draw too many of the businesses currently on Metro ethernet or fiber (people who need 50 or 100 meg upload rates).

Anyway, the 75/10 plan they've already announced is pretty close on the upload.

huh... never noticed that.... I actually had to look for it... no where close to the internet portion of the bill (I bundle Uverse and wireless)

I guess I can swing 5 bucks on top of the $2

Uploads look to still be a joke.

True. However, they aren't exactly alone in that department. Charters top tier is 100/5 and that's the business plan.

That's due to network limitations. They should be increasing upload speeds once they get the video services 100% digital to free up bandwidth for more upload to use.

"Charter Fiber" has 50mbps upload.

sometimes it is even too much for large businesses... My previous employer built its own private fiber network to all their locations because it was cheaper than having metro-E to each location... (115 locations) I think the savings was close to $1 million a year...

Cable upload channels currently sit on very low frequencies, below standard TV channels. So, video going all digital shouldn't matter in terms of offering faster uploads.

TWC has the same problem. They don't offer anything with faster than 5mbps up.

Wait, they're still using analog for some of their video services? Man, that is so 20th century.

Yes because there are quite a "few" customers out there that would whine if they said "you must have a Digital Cable box to watch standard cable tv" -- Trust me cable would love to ditch the analog and require everyone to 'lease' a converter.

Digital != Encrypted. Almost every "digital ready" TV sold in the last 6-8 years can receive (digital) Clear QAM channels without a box. Both Comcast and FiOS are 100% digital (well, Comcast might have a few systems haven't been converted yet...) and you do not need a box for the local/limited basic channels.

Uh, you must have missed all the news flashes - Comcast HAS/IS encrypting ALL (remaining) limited basic channels nationwide as we speak:

Yep, that sounds about right for C***cast. They are a four letter word in my household.

I would rather eat my own face than go back to dealing with them.

California and Nevada: Uverse Power tier announced

edit: My zip shows it available, but not my street.

No RG (3800) FW upgrade yet. Could new FW (on old RG), be a necessary but not sufficient prerequisite? A signal your VRAD is capable of new speeds?

Hopefully it comes here soon as AT&T is getting crushed by Comcast and Cablevision in our state . I put in a CA zip code then I saw it.

Where exactly is that? URL please? In an increase of $10 a month extra for 45 Mbps isn't bad. I would jump at the chance to get it.

It looks like this when I put in a CA zip code on that page. Pretty much the same stuff as in the picture above.

I have been trying to set up Uverse at my new address and while trying to get it setup I asked when we could expect it in Arlington/DFW, TX. They said by Xmas. Well that sucks. Not sure why the home market is being neglected.

On that page they left space for the next speed plan in the meter image. So hopefully it wont take 4 years for the next speed plan upgrade.

I just called in and while the new tier isn't available in my area, I was able to find out the new business tier will likely be over $200/month. For that price it's cheaper for me to just get two 24/3 accounts which is what I've decided to go with.

Oh and I have no other options for internet. I would have prefered TWC because they already have 50/5 for the same price a Uverse's 45/6 plan. But my apartment complex has an agreement with ATT so I am stuck with 24/3 until who knows when. Hopefully the by Xmas is the entire nationwide rollout of the 45/6 plan not just Arlington.
