Re: faster Uverse speeds (Project VIP) coming soon?

said by brookeKrige:

Had unusual retrain 3am 2 days ago.

Interesting, I noticed the same thing in my logs. Mine happened 10 days ago, but also at exactly 3AM. My firmware is still 6.3.7.50-enh.tm.

My Availability page still shows "Max Plus" 18Mb as the fastest option, even for Internet only.

I meant on the NVG589.

Sorry no idea; pretty much the only people with NVG589 are those that have been able to upgrade.

I am going to say ride it out for 30 days or so. I don't think even I, mark, or the phone people have 100% all the answers. With stuff like this being announced it might be the better and easier path to sit back and relax.

I know it might not be the best option to hear, but sometimes it can be the easiest and far more effective.

As a sidebar...wasn't it alleged that the 24/3 plan would be getting bumped up to 30/3 (at same price) as part of the new speeds? Haven't heard or seen anything about it in a while. Just wondering.

said by Paralel:

I think that might have just been a rumor that didn't pan out...

Or it is one of those "by the end of the year" situations.

said by rolande:

That probably won't roll out until the new 17MHz profiles are released. The current 8d profile is only 32 Meg. I doubt they will roll 30Meg Internet out on a single pair, especially for those with TV service, using the 8d profile.

Thanks for the replies Paralel & rolande.
Your right, I didn't even think about needing the new profiles to be put in to use, that is going to have to happen first.
Thanks again, I have my answer (for now).

Hoping this makes it to DFW soon... although I have been having issues with stability and speed ever since the idiot drunk driver ran into our box at the entrance to our neighborhood. 21 disconnects today and counting! Maybe if I could upgrade they will fix the box?

I guess time will tell. It will probably take me at least that long to research a new provider and get everything squared away for an install.

I'm going to peace out until then. Hanging around is just going to make me want to kick puppies.

My line used to take errors at random times, sometimes I'd have two thousand corrected errors a day for no reason. This new NVG589 seems to not be having those corrected errors. No idea why.

2000 errors would be a dream for me... attached is what my typical day looks like ATT has sent 4 techs out and everytime they come out it checks out "fine". Not sure what else they can check at this point. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had a similar problem before, AT&T even ran a new homerun line, ended up though the pair they were using had a problem, so they switched to a different pair and it stopped the drops. I ended up re-running the homerun myself with cat6 cable, haven't had problems with it since.

No, and I doubt it is the issue. There was a drunk driver that ran into the big box that ATT put at the end of the street right when all of this started happening (it was completely out when that happened). Prior to this I had never seen a disconnection in over a year and 1/2 and pretty much always got great speed.

After they "fixed" the box that was run into and got us back up and going the constant disconnects and mediocre speeds started. They have checked my house 4 times and found nothing... I'm thinking it likely they didn't fully fix whatever the damage was at the end of the street, but I have no way of proving that =/

I had U Verse (U200) TV installed today.

Had an interesting chat with the UV Tech... previously had UV here so the install was pretty quick for him.. They installed a 3800 RG -- I made the comment "ah 3800 I guess that's because I am so close to the VRAD?" he chuckled and was like "yeah usually 3801's are reserved for those further out or repeat trouble call issues" I brought up the new NV589 and pair bond.. he didn't have much to say on it but that apparently there is "talk" of the 589 becoming default for all installs at some point down the road as they expand "streams" and bandwidth offerings in the future. He said that additional video streams is in the works at some point as that's one of their biggest requests from customers (I also brought up Vectoring and the 17a profile and he said "that's in the works" along with vectoring that ATT has been testing such things internally)

Based on my previous experience I forgot to ask him but my VRAD appears to be still on old F Cards because my sync is 60,000 kbps with the 3800 and previously I had round 63,000 kbps with the 3801 when I had UVerse previously about a year ago.

Apparently UVerse's database flags you if your a repeat customer .. he plugged in the RG 3800 and it sync'ed right away and the DVR downloaded updated software and I was up and running in less than 30 minutes.

Even though I do not have HSI service with AT&T I can access the internal page on the RG with the WiFi which is enabled to access the RG (even though HSI is disabled so you can't get beyond the internal 192.x page)

These are my line stats -- I still find it interesting that the online system says 24/3 is my limit for HSI .. I would think at my distance I would be a shoe in for 45/6.

Open up a thread in the AT&T Direct Forum to see if they can enable you the ability to order the 45M tier. I'm just as close to the VRAD as you are up in Cleveland, OH and I already have the 45M Internet tier.

okay these are two different screen shots from my uncle's line capacity and it seems to have improved by 3.7% since late august also noticed he has:
WAN: 0SD/4HD
Ingress: 0SD/4HD
Egress: 0SD/3HD

is this a new profile setup?

A tech was out here today (why, I have no idea, all I asked was to be bumped up to the 24 Mbps tier of Internet service, but they said the system required them to send out a tech when this tier of service is ordered, despite the fact that everything was fine), and my line distance, as measured by a handheld TDR, was 1928 ft. Well within the distance for the 45 Mbps tier of service. He also said that capacity at the VRAD was not an issue in my area. I am on an F-Card, but a K-Card is not required for the Power tier of service (as we have seen here).

So, as I am within the distance necessary, and capacity at the VRAD is not an issue, if the engineering department says a K-Card is necessary, I just need to get them to swap out my card. Other members of the forum have had their F-Cards swapped out for K-Cards so they can qualify for the service, so it seems that this should be possible in my case.

This is all so frustrating.

1 recommendation

someone said on another thread that power should launch in the southwest region in the next two weeks as of this last Monday when they were asking about a launch date for Austin.

I am surprised that At&t bumped some users to 0SD/4HD for ingress a family member has it. Also looks like the 19/2 profile now Qualifies for 0SD/3HD ingress as another family member had it until At&t bumped them to the 1SD/3HD 25/2 profile at my request as UV Realtime was showing 25/2 to be the correct profile that their line should have been on. Oh when my family member went from 1SD/3HD to 0SD/4HD ingress At&t bumped the max line rate for the downstream by 3Mbps to compensate for the 4th HD channel I think.

So maybe this Monday, 9/16, or next Monday 9/23 it will get announced? Very much looking forward to it.

I'm in the Grand Rapids, MI market, so we were part of the second wave that occurred beyond the western states.

I don't know all I know is that I was at my uncles and ran UV Realtime and noticed his bits in use ratio went down and went hmm and went over to the DVR to discover the 0SD/4HD profile in use and it basically means that the DVR is now showing 31Mbps on TV side for ingress on the STB. btw my uncle lives a block away from the Central Office so maybe that is why he had it so quick plus he lives about a 1000 ft from the VRAD

1 edit

At least I was finally able to figure out how in the world they came up with 3100+ feet in the provisioning database for my address. The morons that originally put the information in the database used a TDR that was set for the wrong AWG. They never bothered to apply the proper ohm/kft conversion factor to the number they got. Apparently the people that have the tools have no idea how to actually use them. This explains why the entries in my area are so retarded. Whoever did the initial survey should lose their job.

No. The prem. tech. that was here said he had no ability to influence what is in the database, regardless of what the actual reading is.

David is giving it one last push, otherwise, I'm screwed.

Are you on the 32/5 profile right now? If so, it doesn't make any sense at all that you can't get the 45/6 seeing as all it needs is a couple of 27/3 lines.
