[Speed] Conroe: 50M - Why Poor Speed Results on DSLReports
I use the flash speed test here, and receive extremely poor results compared to other users with the same service
( 50M/3M). I tried the site in New Jersey, as I noticed in the list that was the site most often used by most members.
Today (well, a little slow could be expected at this time of day) I received a 5.8M/.901M from the Los Angeles site,
then switched to the New Jersey site and recorded 6M/3.1M.
Using the speed test (speedtest.net) site, I received a 19.62/3.10 to Jackson, MS, and of course it gets better when testing to Temple,
as I came up with a 46.98M/3.2M. Why the discrepancy, and such slow speeds ? I'm honestly not complaining, as downloads fly, and browser reaction time is never a problem.
Equipment is: PC - Asus Crosshair w/AMD 8350, 16GB memory (I run Unix & Linux at times) with Win XP Pro 32 bit,
connected by cable to Western Digital N600 router (hardly top of the line, but an adequate router), router also has one other hard connection to my wife's PC, and the Dish Network wired interface connection, plus wireless to an Ipad, Kindle, and phones when they're here; from this modem, the connection to the cable is through an Arris modem (CM820), plus there's also an Arris modem for telephone service which connects to the cable. All connections are clean, tight, and in good condition.
Again, I'm not really complaining as much as I'm curious to know why the results are so poor.
Murphy's Law and all it's corollaries are alive and well: I prove them every day!
Closed, 30M service again. Now, how do I get 31.45M down at speedtest.net, but here at Dslreports, the best I can do in the same time period is 4.4m down ? Something ain't right somewhere....
