New Arris TM722G firmware update.

My modem just randomly rebooted and downloaded a new firmware update.

System: ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 / PacketCable 1.5 Touchstone Telephony Modem
HW_REV: 3
VENDOR: Arris Interactive, L.L.C.
BOOTR: 1.2.1.25
SW_REV: 7.6.59C
MODEL: TM722G
Battery Charger FW Rev: 02.40

Firmware Name: TS070659C_050313_MODEL_7_8
Firmware Build Time: Fri May 3 11:17:40 EDT 2013

Previous firmware was built in January 2012.

Anybody else get the new firmware?

I got updated firmware a month back on my 852G and haven't been able to find much information on 7.6.59C. At least then when I was looking for info there wasn't really anything concrete out there.

Here's my older post with my experiences:

»Newest firmware for Arris TG852G, BUGGY!

Here's a link explaining new options:

»forums.comcast.com/t5/Home-Netwo···1#M52694

Looks like there's some new config options, including IPv6 and MAC filter settings. This new firmware also seems to be laying the groundwork for the new "xfinitywifi" thing which appears to be a work in progress. You can opt-out of this by logging into the Comcast Customer Care site (I did) but a blank SSID will still broadcast.

Here are some posts on this xfinitywifi program:

»[Wi-Fi] Comcast plans to announce Home WiFi Hotspots today

»[Wi-Fi] How to: Become an xfinitywifi/cablewifi Hotspot

»[Wi-Fi] Is the xfinitywifi dead?

OP's eMTA is not a Gateway! Therefore it can't support the xfinitywifi stuff.

Could it be IPV6 turn on for your area or a prep for that? NetDog would know. Also »www.comcast6.net/ will give you your IP and tell you if your head end is IPV6 Ready

I did Manual reboot on TM822G which uses same firmware and got the same version. It did fix a small IE 11 problem on the device's internal website

I did a manual reboot on my TM722G, and got the new firmware as well. Don't really see any change yet. Still no IPv6 attempts. [Memphis, TN]

Some testing does show a solution to NetGear WNR3500L from Sam Knows not automatically reconnecting unless IPv6 in router was disabled.

Would be helpful if Comcast had a page with a changelog for each firmware.

The only difference I see is the HW_REV item which would indicate that your eMTA is older that the OP's.

The TG822G is the current Arris eMTA. and TM862G for the Gateway.

I did notice that the build times from the various screen shots are different...

for ex: Time: Fri May 3 11:18:59 EDT 2013

As opposed to the OP Fri May 3 11:17:40 EDT 2013

Dont know if it makes a difference or varies by region.

7.6.59C had some IPv6 fixes and other fixes as well. I can look for the public Arris notice if you want me too. Are you looking for some issue you had?

I have the same modem, but as of yet, I have not received the new firmware.

Below is what I've had since 12/07/2012. By the way, the uptime of my modem is 19 days, 8 hours and 11 minutes.

Hardware Information
System: ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 / PacketCable 2.0 Touchstone Telephony Modem
HW_REV: 3
VENDOR: Arris Interactive, L.L.C.
BOOTR: 1.2.1.25
SW_REV: 7.4.63A.SIP.PC20
MODEL: TM722G
Battery Charger FW Rev: 02.30
Options:

Firmware Build and Revisions
Firmware Name: TS070463A_011312_MODEL_7_8_SIP_PC20
Firmware Build Time: Fri Jan 13 19:51:18 EST 2012

Should I wait for it to reboot on its own, or should I try to reboot it manually, and see if it pulls an updated version?

Thanks,

That is up to you.. If you don't have any issue there is no real need I would say..

NetDog,

It would be nice to know what was in the update. I suspect the IPV6 Netgear problem was fixed. I use to lose IPV6 within a day, but I've had IPV6 steadily since upgrading to the new firmware (granted-it is only two days so far).

Well, I went ahead and rebooted my cable modem this morning. By "Rebooted" I

1) Powered off the device by flipping the power switch on the surge protector that it was plugged into.
2) Modem of course stayed on, but using battery power.
3) I then pulled the battery
4) Waited 1 minute
5) Put battery back in
6) Powered back up surge protector

Modem went through its boot up process. It did take longer then normal, and it did reset itself, so I figured it was downloading something.

Once it was back up, I went and loaded the hardware configuration page, which for reference is
»192.168.100.1/cgi-bin/vers_cgi

Below I'm going to show all of the changes. First, I'll list what the old value was, and then below it, what the new value now is.

New:
SW_REV: 7.6.59C.SIP.PC20

Old:
Firmware Build Time: Fri Jan 13 19:51:18 EST 2012
New:
Firmware Build Time: Fri May 3 11:18:59 EDT 2013

Finally, here is the full set of information (Modem Serial Number removed by me)

I was told most of the changes are SIP related, but they are still checking on the IPv6 changes..

Got this last night after a reset, fixed one issue I've had for a while now... anytime I lost power to my router I had to reboot my eMTA... which was a pain in the butt... now when the router restarts or loses power, it reconnects without a emta reset

SIP related? Any impact on the telephony end because of this? or are we just using PacketCable for telephony only?

I noticed a slight speed increase. Before the update I was getting just over 55mbps, now I'm getting just over 57mbps. I have a TM722G that got the update on Friday, July 26th.
