[Exede] Pleased with Exede

I run a small business from my home, which is located in the boonies (outside of Nacogdoches in East Texas) so finding decent internet for me has been an adventure, I started out with dial-up years ago and in 2010 switched to Virgin Mobile broadband 2 go with a Cradlepoint router, at first my service was wonderful, I signed up to the $40 UL plan as soon as it was offered and I have been relatively happy until lately. For days on end I couldn't get a page to load, if you are running a business from home this is more frustrating than just not being able to do Facebook. I checked into Hughes.net a year ago and was scared away by bad reviews, did the same with Exede a few months ago...I signed up for a 5 GB hot spot on my iPhone through AT&T but that has been useless, mostly because I can't get a signal strong enough to finish a phone call much less internet service. I was called back by an Exede salesperson on a day when I couldn't get any work done and this time I was interested. I placed a call to Virgin Mobile to give them a chance to fix the problems I was having, their solution was for me to take my computer outside and see if that would help my signal... I can't work sitting outside on the porch every day. For years I had my computer in the same spot and although the signal wasn't great, I could get my work done. I checked the reviews on Exede again and I still heard horror stories, customers using up all 10 GB of service in just a few days, but I was at my wits end so I decided to take a chance. Although the service guy was hours late he made it here on July 18th, the day I was scheduled and he got everything hooked up in less than an hour. We seldom play any u tube clips, no online videos or movies (we have DIRECTV) and although we play games, we don't play any online games but I was still concerned about how long the 10 GB would last, people on the forums have reported doing none of these things and still using up all their data in just a few days, I'm on my computer up to 20 hours a day, 7 days a week and my son who lives in the garage apartment also has his own online business. I have a daughter with an iPod and visiting grandchildren with iPod and I pad’s, they’ve used it some but mostly I try to get them to use the VM BB 2 go service (when they can get it to connect). I'm happy to report that after a week and a half of service we have only use 2 GB of service and it is very fast. I bought an ASUS RT-N56U router and although I know I could have went cheaper, I have heard a lot of good things about this router. We are careful to use the Exede internet for U tube, movies, online games or downloads only after 12 midnight... so far I'm the only one up that late at night and I've enjoyed catching up on some missed TV shows. I just wanted anyone thinking of signing up with Exede to know that there are people that are very happy with the service and with Exede's customer service. I've cancelled my AT&T hotspot but I may keep the VM BB2 go service for the kids and to use when I'm away from home

You may want to edit your post and break it into paragraphs. That one large paragraph may contain some great information but not to many people are going to "try" to read it.

Thanks, I'll do that...I think I should have posted this under reviews anyway

sir817..

I am glad you are using your Exede plan wisely. We have the same ASUS router for the last yr..With our Exede plan, set and forget..the router.

I got another question, after reading your comments, were you ever offered the Gov Recovery Plan thru Exede Wildblue.
it is for rural homes that never had broadband internet before... now it is too late to get it.. since you went with commercial Exede plans..We are on the platinum plan and use every bit of it each month.

Nice to see a happy camper report...lots of us out there but the complainers are more vocal and likely to post. My service has been very satisfactory for over a year now...I signed up through Dish (but not bundled) because there was no Exede presence here at the time. It ain't cable but that is not available here. Several suggestions for potential customers:
1. Go with independent dealer/installer.
2. Get references and check them to be sure your area is good and the installer is competent.
3. RTFC!!! Read and understand the eff'n contract. It is ugly as sin but you need to know what you are buying and what your obligations are.
4. Do not believe a single thing the phone salesperson tells you. They are on commission.
5. Research other alternatives.
If you do all that, you will have a good chance of success.
