RS PRO-197 or GRE PS 600 serial port details?

Does anyone have the details for how to control and grab info from the serial port of these radios? All I've found is a guy who wrote a perl script to pull the LCD details.

I'm using that myself now--I have the radio streaming from my linux box and updating the song title as the pre-programmed tag and frequency, but I'd love to be able to expand on that to control the radio as well. For example, I'd like to be able to actually tune the radio from the linux box (via webpage eventually, but ssh to start). Seems very straight forward, I just need to know the details for the commands/protocol these radios use...

You're using a $500 scanner to listen to music?

WHY??

You misunderstand... I'm not listening to music, it's police/fire/hams, the song title in icecast represents the alpha tag and frequency the radio is tuned to.

In addition I'd like to be able to select other channels and scan lists from the web, lock out nuisance stations, etc

D'OH!

Never did any streaming, so I didn't know you could use "song title" for anything else you wanted.

You might want to check out Butel software for programming the scanner.

I use it on my BC796D, BC996XT, BC898T and Home Patrol. Great software and if you have a subscription to Radio Reference you can access thier database directly.

Right, so I've already programmed the scanner as I want... what I'm looking for now is remote listening and control. So I'd like to be able to tune into my own audio stream (not RR) and have it report (via the song title field) the alpha tag and frequency being heard. I'd further like to be able to manually tune the radio via a website.

It's essentially a series of perl scripts executed via links and text fields. All I need to know the commands to be sent to the radio via serial port. Since so many different vendors make software the commands/responses must be known, I just don't know what they are.... yet

If you're not already there; head over to radioreference.com... Some big-time scanner guys rolling around the forums there.

I have a Radio Shack Pro-106, and use Win500 from Starrsoft to monitor and program; but don't know the underlying command structure...

EDIT - I should add, Win500 is able to do exactly what I think you want - stream audio and text, and remote control the scanner over the Internet; but it's Windows based.
