Blink Now Supports HDVoice Using Opus

The Blink soft phone from AG Projects now supports Opus in both it's Mac and Windows versions. I've done some cursory testing and find it sounds very good so far. The sample rate is user variable from 8 KHz to 48 KHz. Echo cancellation is fully functional at sample rates up to 32 KHz. They are working to extend the echo cancellation, voice activity detection, noise suppression et al to 48 KHz.

While is this a bit beyond the sort of plain vanilla voip that remains primarily PSTN emulation/replacement, I've been contacted a number of times by people seeking an alternative to Skype for the purposes of podcasting or streaming high-quality audio online. Blink and Jitsi both provide solid tools for passing production quality audio over IP.

Incidentally, at IETF 87 in Berlin on Monday there's a technical plenary session about Opus. For the first time ever that session will be streamed via WebRTC. That's a session about the state of Opus, streamed using Opus. You only need a WebRTC capable browser to see the stream.
