Sign if you are commited to dumping Rogers!Who dumped Rogers for over the air?
So I am officially 3 months with over the air TV and I get 4 nice channels in Waterloo Region. I get Global, CTV, City TV, and TVO. All are crystal clear with only a terk indoor antenna. I dropped Rogers because they forced me to subscribe to packages instead of the channels I wanted.
I would like to see if we can get up to 1000 member names that have dumped rogers cable TV.
Lets make rogers notice...

Seriously, how much do you pirate? I don't think it should count if you torrent... and I would include US hulu in that bucket. |

I pay them a monthly fee, its just not allowed in Canada. I dumped Rogers two years ago and haven't missed them in the least. Netflix and Huluplus, plus a lot of shows are streamed from the network sites anyway. |

I use an occasional torrent but mostly watch over the air or LEGAL youtube documentaries.
Really I don't much care who does what because when a monopoly charges insane prices we have no other choice but take advantage of what is available. If I had a carrier that said I could add CNN, A&E and a few others to my over the air signals then I would gladly pay for what I use. However forcing a $100 package on me to get CNN just sucks. |

Two years and counting for me. Netflix + OTA + Youtube is more than enough content to fulfill my families TV needs.
Not having to open another Rogers bill and seeing a price increase notice = Priceless |

Read this page, which explains why you can't do it legally. » www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/sm ··· 562.html |

Thanks for the link, but it does not directly cover website streaming to the home (one can insinuate the principal is the same as decrypting US satellite signals - which is illigal)
However if one were to purchase a VPN service and watch Fox, Hulu, US version of Netflix etc... from what I read this is not illegal (or better stated, explicitly covered, unless I glazed over something... if so please point it out as I am genuinely interested in knowing...)
Although it could follow that the spirit of why pirating is illegal could be extended to streaming from US providers, there is no:
- Illegal equipment purchased - Decoding of encrypted signals
From the act (specific to grey market):
The Radiocommunication Act Section 9(1)(c) states: "No person shall
decode an encrypted subscription programming signal or encrypted network feed otherwise than under and in accordance with an authorization from the lawful distributor of the signal or feed". This section of the Radiocommunication Act has been the subject of recent court challenges involving retailers who sell American DTH satellite receivers and services in Canada. This resulted in confusion due to differing judgements rendered regarding the interpretation of section 9(1)(c). A Supreme Court of Canada decision in the case of Bell ExpressVu v. Richard Rex, made on April 26, 2002, confirms that provisions in the Radiocommunication Act forbid the illegal decoding of satellite television programming. |

There are dozens of intermidiary providers in the GTA that take care of that, they charge $75 a year to provide you with a u.s. address and process your payments.. but you must have a CC card so they can take away $33 u.s. a month. |

Thanks for replying. sketchy?, there are lots of canadians doing this, it doesnt infract crtc rules as it has nothing todo about stealing canadian signals, the price to get setup is alot cheaper than paying robbers or bhell's 1 month bill, seems no risk at all even if you have to setup/buy the equipment which u can buy second hand, in the long run, say 6 months lol, youd be in the black and not paying outrageous cable tv prices which go up constantly for crap programming but keeping paying robbers monthly bill if you like but that to me is more sketchy as to why if theres alternatives |
|
|
Dish is in violation of their programming agreements with their suppliers if they knowingly do this. They may simply turn a blind eye, but if their suppliers make a stink about it, they'll have to do something. Their suppliers could get pressure put on them by their Canadian customers (Rogers, Cogeco, Bell, Shaw, etc.) if this practice becomes more widespread. |

well being none of us are lawyers and I'm sure none are going to read the whole signals code lets say this some of us don't give a fork and will do it if we can.
I got a VPN and get US netflix is that breaking some type of BS code no idea and I don't care if I wanted to get cheaper TV I'm more than happy to get something that lets me get the US signals. |
