Problems in Salmon Arm the last few days?

Hi everyone,

We have a business Shaw internet connection in Salmon Arm and we've had a some problems in the last few days.

A day or two ago our internet connection stopped working on our 3 work computers, the lights on the modem didn't indicate any problems (it's a Motorola SB5102). The internet connection came back about 10 minutes later, we didn't think much of it since these things happen.

The same exact thing happened this morning though, for about the same amount of time (10 minutes). It also happened again about 20 minutes ago for about 10 minutes again. (it was out from 4:05pm - 4:15pm)

Has anyone else in Salmon Arm been having these problems the last few days? It's a bit of a hassle since our business does use the internet quite a bit for database lookups.

Thanks.

-Peter

You'll probably get better response on the Shaw Community.

Thanks for the tip. I decided to contact Shaw directly by phone, they did a bunch a diagnostics on the modem and didn't find anything wrong. They thought it might be the router.

We bought a new router yesterday (30 day return policy in case it doesn't fix it), and sure enough our internet dropped out again today for about 10 minutes. Exact same symptoms as before.

I thought that perhaps there might be something on our internal network causing it (weird random virus or something causing traffic and overloading the internal network)? So I set up an external ping tester on the IP address that pings the router every 10 minutes. Sure enough, I get a ping with 100% packet loss during these 10 minutes. I think this rules out anything on our end being the problem.

Spoke with Shaw again and they are sending a tech tomorrow to swap out the modem. Hopefully that'll fix it.

Well the modem swap didn't help. We had a dropout last Sunday at just after 6pm for ten minutes.

I also setup a ping tester for our router (external server pings our router every 10 minutes, logs if it goes down), and it indicates our connection went down again last night for about 10 minutes around midnight. We obviously weren't at the store when that happened, but it does show the problem is ongoing.

The Shaw tech said they didn't have any record of our connection going down at the times I gave them, and a new router didn't help the problem whatsoever.

Does anyone else have any ideas?
