Wireless WAPI have an extra Cisco and Motorola WAP for the wireless receivers. I know that they sell a commercial version of the Cisco WAP in stores for the purpose of being a Wireless Access Point. My question is can I install another firmware version on the att cisco wap so I can use it as a true WAP? |

Nope.
Without an AT&T wireless STB, it's completely useless.
This was done on purpose in order to prevent there from being a secondary market for these WAP's. |

It's useless because of the firmware, but if I updated it to the firmware of the exact device (but the one you can buy at walmart), it wouldn't act like a normal WAP? |

It's not exactly the same, there are some slight differences.
People have tried this before, without any success. |
