[Connectivity] SB6120 - old firmware and will not go Online
I just moved in to a new apartment. I had CenturyLink at my old place for a few years, and the cable modem I purchased before that was never used (SB6120).
Ordered 50mbps Blast HSI, then tried to set it up myself. Receive->Solid. Send->Solid. Online->Blink..then eventually it power cycles itself and tries again.
It has the SB6120-126.96.36.199-SCM02-NOSH firmware still on it from April 2009, which Comcast's CMTS apparently has a problem registering
I had a SB5101 lying around too, which syncs up right away. I temporarily had comcast register the old SB5101's MAC and it works fine, except I do not get full speeds obviously since it is DOCSIS2.
Is there any way to get my SB6120 FW updated? It is long out of warranty and right now is completely useless and I really want full speed instead of 30mbps
When this first popped up, there was some Comcast person you could contact who you could ship it to and they could connect it to a CMTS that was compatible. I don't know if you can still do that.
Unfortunately, you may have to scrap the 6120 and buy another new modem. Generally, the SB6141 or the Zoom 5341J seem to be the most common.

netcool PM'd me and got my modem going, really appreciate it!
No problem. Anyone with the same issue can PM and I will take a look for you.
There are multiple issues with the older firmware handling upstream channel bonding and IPV6 cable modem management. Often times I have to push the modem back into a walledgarden bootfile and then switch the modem's mac domain to IPV4 only.
