[Cable Card] CableCard diagnostics displayed on TiVo

I've issues with video tiling and audio drops. My equipment and cabling is fine and confirmed. Recently there's been distribution work which has seemed to improve the issue but I've still got substantial Corrected Errors and Uncorrected errors reported on most of the frequencies. There are frequencies that seem to report 0 - 0 as expected.

On my two machines I have a question about OOB Frequency/SNR in the diagnostics, one displays 104200 KHz (36dB) and the other 75250 KHz (2dB). That I just don't understand and the signal levels at the 2nd machine are very low, barely above the minimum required. The errors seem substantially higher on the 2nd machine.

Is there a CableCard guy/gal here that might care to help? I've some issues with speech and it's extremely difficult at times to communicate with CSR's. No fault of theirs or me just the way it is.

Re: CableCard "diagnostics" displayed on TiVo

Can you post pictures of the screens you are looking at?

I will try. Do you have a TiVo with a Comcast card?

Excuse the cell snapshots - camera is on loan. Do I need to explain where they're located?

One of my concerns is that on the 4XL the SNR is a match to the receive of the cable card but on the 2XL you'll notice that it's 2dB but if I go to the tuners they report 32 - 34 dB.

Also one card has OOB Spectral Inversion ON (the one with the lower KHz/2XL) and the other has it OFF.

What is Spectral Inversion?

Are you getting the problem on both Tivo's or just one?

When I have issues it on both machines at the same times. Are you familiar with the screens that I posted? I have what I believe relatively high Corrected & Uncorrected errors on both machines.

Which of the two screen shots should be correct? One for both machines or are the screens correct on each as they're displayed?

Would a fresh hit maybe do anything for my concerns? What happens if I swap cards machine to machine?

Ah, I see that you are under the DVR Diagnostics screen. Keep in mind that there has been some talk about the latest TiVo software being a little screwy in the diagnostic update sdreens with not updating correctly. On my Premiere 4, I'm seeing an OOB Frequency of 7400 KHz, an OOB Data Rate of 2048 Kbps, OOB Spectral Inversion is off, and OOB SNR is between 34 and 35 dB. Same with my other card in my 2 tuner Premiere. Both are Cisco branded PKM 801 models. »www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collate···26_a.pdf

If you swap the cards with each other, they'll still work but copy protected channels such as premiums won't work until you call in and pair them to the new Host ID of the TiVo's.

Question is, are you having any issues with either box? If not then I wouldn't worry about it. I've seen both and generally regarding OOB stuff it depends on how the CableCard is provisioned on Comcast's network before they make them available to customers both either way should in theory work fine.

Like I mentioned in my post, an unusual amount of errors both corrected and uncorrected with audio drop-outs and tiiling or pixelation - whatever one wants to call it. Comcast has pretty much verified my equipment (cables etc) to be fine. They've done they say distribution work in the area BUT I still have the unusual error counts. This was the only thing that I saw different in any of the CableCard screens. I hate to beat on Comcast and I thought the more I understood about it the more intelligent conversation I could have with them when I call them.

I applaud you for wanting to be more educated and informed about things like this. The only issue I see is the fact that the techs on the phone are clueless about things this complex. This is engineer and field technician type stuff. After Comcast did their distribution work in your area, are you still experiencing the tiling and pixilation and audio dropouts? I would have a tech come out and visit and have him run diagnostics on the lines in person, if you still are.

I've checked there and there hasn't really been that much info regarding this specific issue that resulted in a solution. Their response was blaming it on the cable company or the cablecard.

Is this issue still occurring WVZR1? I'm beginning to see the same issues you've described, I've spoken to TiVo and after going through the troubleshooting, they determined it was an issue with the cable signal. I'll take some screenshots and post them here in a few days. The other issue that I've becoming across is the "wrong card state" error in the TiVo diagnostics when I receive a "channel not available" message on certain channels such as those in the 456000KHz range. At first I noticed it was occurring after Comcast installed a MoCA ground block and the RS Corrected and RS Uncorrected was through the roof. I replaced it with a standard ground block and they for the most part went away (but as of typing this I browsed through the diagnostic screen and I'm still seeing a little bit of RS Corrected across all TiVo's on various channels). The other issue I've experienced, which I think is related is the "Time Since Tune Start" and Time Since Signal Lock" seem to reset a lot on the same channels that I'm noticing the macroblocking and glitches which correspond to when they reset. I'm assuming all three issues are related to one another.

I came across this thread off the TiVo community forums. It looks like Premiere's and Motorola cards. »www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/sh···t9751143
