Re: Planning my first backhaul for my new WISP The other WISP doesn't use UBNT gear, mostly older (circra 2004) canopy gear. The 2.4 radio they sold me had 2004 on the board inside.
The have about 200 900mhz subs and about 20 2.4ghz subs.
They have a TINY burst (30mb file size), but the consistent speeds are 384k for 900mhz and 1mb for 2.4ghz. Along with 4% packet loss or greater. When I complained about the packet loss, they told me they aim for 4% or less. Can't a wisp aim for 0% packet loss? Is packet loss that big of a problem with PTMP? |

Well, in 2.4ghz its almost always going to happen. 0% in back hauls or other 5ghz, but in 900mhz, 2.4ghz some packet loss is almost expected, at least some times especially when you have a wide beam sector or omni that can see everything. Im sure there is gear that has really robust modulations that can tolerate even high amounts of noise and still not drop packets, but that comes at the cost of speed, and ubnt is not that gear. -- OptionsDSL Wireless Internet »www.optionsdsl.ca |
