Descrease latency on high speed 25 questions.
Can any of you advice me what to say to technical support when I call in about decreasing the latency on highspeed 25.
Back in Toronto, I know bell have something with interleave and fastpath. with fastpath the latency reduce almost half but with the sacrifice of speed.
Telus does not do fastpath.
There are varying levels of INP (impulse noise protection)
The lines can be adjusted, but generally they are set automatically by a system which notices errors (at least how it was explained to me)
I had mine manually adjusted, and ended up going back. The error correction for an extra 5 ms worked out big in my favor for gaming, because I was spiking.
edit: please note there is a 99.9% chance anyone you speak with when you call in will have no idea what any of the above means, nor are they trained/supposed to.
Ask to speak to a Level 2 because you have a very specific technical question.

Just call them about 30 minutes ago and they said it is impossible because I have optic TV. this is sad.
It isn't. Most(think, everyone you talk to minus a Level 2 in a good mood) will tell you that however. I went through this a while ago, the results surprised me. The higher INP was better for me.
My ping is 5 ms higher normally because of this, but I do not see the spikes I saw when I had it lowered. I'm quite sure this is the same case you would go through.
The issue (and shaw has this too) is with whom they pair with. Some places are better for shaw, some for telus.
With Telus, anytime you want to connect to something backed by internap, Telus first peers with cogentco (the discount brokerage of backboners as far as I'm concerned), and the ping will suck compared to if they rented from pnap
Anyway, got off topic there. The reason they especially say no because of optik is it's alot more noticable when your TV signal fucks up vs your ping spiking (unless you were gaming I suppose).
5 ms for a stable connection is a good sacrifice.
Optik profiles can be put on 5ms INPx xdb of choice, depending on stability.
You can PM me your number nhs and I can take a look at it.
I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications.
Yeah I was placed on that few weeks ago, had more problems than it solved, went back to 10.
Error correction is there for a reason it turns out, haha =)
Stability first and foremost.
Is there a way to tell what your INP profile is?
My ping used to be between 5-7 ms and now is double.(gasp!!)
Just wonder if the computer adjusted something automatically on my profile. It was perfect before, and now it's just great.
