[West] Can sonic.net Fusion be faster than ATT DSL?

I am 12,500 feet from CO and my Pro speed is about 2.2 Mbits/sec (used to be 2.5). Can Sonic do any better at this distance?

Hard to say. Have you checked their forum? They have a stickied speed/distance chart:

»New Fusion average speed/distance chart

My experience on a 9,156 foot loop is that Fusion is faster. But my ADSL estimated Maxsync was ~4400 by the SpeedStream 4100 data. When the switch went active, actual modem sync was 5800. But the longer the loop, the lower the SNR, and the Maxsync also. Worst case for your loop is that the speed will be the same. But Sonic.net will still be cheaper, and has some other benefits; including a free static /32 IP access with corresponding port 25 access.

You can seek more information here:

Yes, Fusion is faster than AT&T ADSL1, but how much faster is dependent upon distance. It can be up to 400% (4x) as fast, at very close distances, yielding 24Mbps, but only very close to the central office building. As distance increases, the gains decrease. At very long distances, it may only be a small percentage faster on the download speed.

Upload though is always faster - Fusion delivers 1Mbps or a little over in the default profile, so 130% to 280% of the speed of the older ADSL1 technology used by AT&T for their DSL product. And as a bonus, with Fusion you can dial 611 and selection option two for connection settings and toggle an "upload priority" mode, which can bump upload to 110% to 250% of the normal speed - again, depending upon distance. Note that this mode (called "Annex M") can have a huge impact on download speed, so be sure to toggle back to normal download priority (Annex A) mode after your big uploads, initial backup, etc completes.
