Broadchurch

I just watched the first episode of this British murder mystery on demand on BBC America (air time is Wednesdays at 10 PM).

Put it in the same category as The Killing, The Bridge, Luther, and maybe even Hannibal, and I highly recommend this one.

Bonus: David Tennant!

Along these lines, I highly recommend The Fall (available via Netflix streaming and the usual other sources, I suspect) which stars Gillian Anders (X-Files fame). It's only five episodes but it's quality TV. Series 2 is scheduled to start production in January 2014.

I just watched it on On Demand. A lot of Harry Potter and Dr. Who crossovers. WAAAAAAy too many commercials. I did like it though.

Watched the first episode - very good, too. Ha, the bad guy is played by the Huntsman/Sheriff from Once Upon a Time.

I watched the first couple of episodes and will come back for more. They never mentioned the A-word, but her character is definitely autistic

Oh man, here's another one: Top of the Lake. I ran across a review of a bunch of these mystery shows in The New Yorker, and the reviewer gave this one brief but very high praise. It's a seven-parter available on Netflix, co-created and directed by New Zealander Jane Campion, who wrote and directed The Piano 20 years ago. The latter won three Oscars: Best Actress for Holly Hunter (who's also in this mini-series), Best Supporting Actress for a very young Anna Paquin (Sookie!), and Best Screenplay for Campion.

Here's the imdb quick summary:

When pregnant, 12-year-old Tui tries to kill herself in a freezing New Zealand lake, Detective Robin Griffin has plenty of questions for the girl. But when Tui suddenly disappears, Griffin finds herself knee-deep in small-town secrets.

Detective Griffin is played by Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss. I watched the first episode and definitely plan to watch more. At the very least you'll be blown away by the gorgeous New Zealand scenery. I kept waiting for Gandalf to make an appearance.

The fall was astounding, I'm watching and can;t recognize the accent (I watch a lot of British TV), and after a couple of episodes it dawned on me it was in Ireland.

DOH

Broadchurch is on my hd to be watched after bb and lord knows what I'll watch next.

No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake.......
