Recent considerable drop in speed, no modem/router problems
We have a 16Mbps connection which had always worked quite well and was consistent in speed. Most recently however, there have been frequent and drastic drops in connection speed, usually to the point where while connected to the internet, websites will not load. When we called WOW they were reluctant to help us due to not having the modem-router that could optionally be rented. However, both the modem (Motorola Surfboard SB6120) and router (WL520-GU) have not given us problems in the past year or two.
I ran a traceroute and noticed that their seemed to be a lot of hops over the private network
traceroute to google.com (126.96.36.199), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

I also checked the modem and found the following:
Power Level - 0dbmV
Power Level - 40dbmV
Channel 1 Correctable/Uncorrectable codewords: 46/862 (Other channels are similar in amount)
In the log the only recent error was this:
No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=e4:83:99:8b:5d:6d;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:24:07:51;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;

Have you tried using just the modem by itself with no router to rule the router out as a potential problem? Do you have the latest modem firmware compared to what others are using on that modem for your speed package?

I'm having the same exact problem in Huntsville, AL. I connected directly to computer and still didn't resolve issue. Did you have any luck resolving this issue?
I tested yesterday and it seems to be back to normal. For now...
